Job Description

Not many teams aspire to zero. Welcome to the Worldwide Returns & ReCommerce team (WWR&R) at Amazon.com.

WW R&R is an agile, innovative organization dedicated to 'making zero happen' to benefit our customers, our company, and the environment. Our goal is to achieve the three zeroes: zero cost of returns, zero waste, and zero defects. We do this by developing groundbreaking products and driving unparalleled operational excellence to help customers keep what they buy, recover returned and damaged product value, keep thousands of tons of waste from landfills, and create the best customer returns experience in the world. We have an eye to the future - we create long-term value at Amazon by focusing not just on the bottom line, but on the planet. We are building the most sustainable re-use channel we can by driving multiple aspects of the Circular Economy for Amazon - returns, recommerce, and rentals.

Amazon WW R&R is comprised of business, product, operational, program, software engineering and data teams that manage the life of a returned or damaged product from a customer to the warehouse and on to its next best use. Our work is broad and deep: we train machine learning models to automate routing and find signals to optimize re-use; we invent new channels to give products a second life; we develop world-class product support to help customers love what they buy; we pilot smarter product evaluations; we work from the customer backward to find ways to make the return experience remarkably delightful and easy; and we do it all while scrutinizing our business with laser focus.

Amazon Rentals is a newly launched program that provides an easy to use service for Students to acquire Textbooks and Musical Instruments at a low price. Students benefit from a lower cost upfront, FREE returns, 2-day Student Prime Shipping, and is backed by the same world class customer service Amazon provides today. Building on this success, we plan to expand as the Rentals Platform for Amazon across multiple product categories and scale to support rapidly growing business goals. Along the way we will also enable new customer features, such as try-before-you-buy an item, that will change the way customers shop at Amazon. We are building a new platform (completely new services), if you are interested in leading massive expansion plans and architecting systems for the future, keep reading.

The Rentals Logistics team is looking for a software engineer to step into a leadership role, define and develop highly scalable and high performance web services. You will have opportunities to work on predominantly backend (Services) and some frontend (Website) components and interact with business stakeholders directly.

* Have you ever wondered how a physical inventory is mapped to a virtual item?
* Have your ever wondered how we are tracking the use-fullness of an inventory and tracking its provenance as rental inventories goes through multiple customer cycles?
* Have you ever wondered how items are graded in a trustable manner so that it can be rented to next customer?

If you are excited about these questions and interested in the answers, this might be the role for you. You will have opportunities to solve deep technical problems, build innovative solutions, and work with top notch software developers. You must be able to look at the big picture from both business and technology perspective, possess strong analytical, design, and problem solving skills, and enjoy working with data, algorithms, and people. You are not afraid of ambiguity, like thinking "outside the box", and get excited about difficult challenges. You are a strong team player and motivated self-starter who thrives in a startup-like environment where flexibility is essential and delivering rock solid, customer focused solutions is paramount.

We are a group that has fun at work while driving incredible customer, business, and environmental impact. We are backed by a strong leadership group dedicated to operational excellence that empowers a reasonable work-life balance. As an established, experienced team, we offer the scope and support needed for substantial career growth.

Amazon is earth's most customer-centric company and through WW R&R, the earth is our customer too. Come join us and innovate with the Amazon Worldwide Returns & ReCommerce team!
