Job Description

Amazon is looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to be a part of the Customer Reviews Development team in Seattle, WA. We own Amazon's famous Customer Reviews and Star Ratings - one of the world's largest community driven products and a hallmark, permanent feature of Amazon's retail website. We materially impact dozens of Amazon's retail businesses and are considered a tier-1 critical feature for the company.

We are forming a team to develop new global features. These features will help millions of on-line customers (worldwide) make shopping decisions. We strive to build the most intuitive and fast user experiences possible.

As an engineer on our team, you will own software in all phases of the software life-cycle from architecture and design through deployment and release. You will work on Amazon's highly scalable distributed systems and get the opportunity to apply the latest techniques in data mining, predictive modeling, and natural language processing.

We will work together on defining features and our overall product roadmap. You will be a technical leader who owns core services and user applications. You will drive system architecture and establish sound software development practices. You will be writing code, participating in code reviews and creating documentation. We will dive deep into customer contributed data and system operational metrics identifying areas of improvement.

Some technologies and problem spaces we'll be working on:

HIGHLY SCALABLE DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS - Amazon's data has billions of records for a mind-boggling variety of products and millions of customers in multiple countries. We will leverage Amazon's cloud infrastructure to build systems and design algorithms that are able to handle these large amounts of data.

DATA MINING AND NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING - We will use the latest machine learning and predictive modeling technologies to extract information valuable to shoppers. We will look for patterns, train thousands of models, and summarize data to gain insights about customer product needs and experiences. We continually evaluate the effectiveness of our solutions and ways to improve them.

INTUITIVE WEB AND MOBILE APPLICATIONS - We will extend ways for Amazon customers to share their thoughts about purchases through ratings, reviews, and votes. Based on the wealth of this community-contributed data we will reduce guesswork from making shopping decisions online. We will achieve these goals by building intuitive and responsive applications for the web, tablets and phones. We obsess on identifying new ways for tailoring user experiences to customer needs and preferences.
