Job Description

The Digital Technology team at Whole Foods Market delivers web and native app solutions that provide our customers, team members, vendors, and other stakeholders with the ability to learn about, socially interact with, and shop Whole Foods Market. The Client Side Developer will be part of a team that builds, delivers, and supports websites that for our internal teams and stakeholders.

We're looking for a developer that's passionate about WordPress and can move quickly and work on multiple projects simultaneously. There is no typical day on this team. We work throughout the stack, from front-end to back-end. You'll be designing solutions to tough UX problems in the morning, optimizing the load times of an API-driven web app before lunch, improving our AWS code delivery pipeline in the afternoon and then brainstorming some new ideas with our business partners before heading home.

Responsibilities:

* Design, code, build, and maintain Whole Foods Market WordPress web solutions (internal and external) in an agile software development environment
* Working knowledge of the low-level workings of WordPress such as the hook and filter system, the Loop, and the WP Query class
* Keen sense of UX, being able to deeply understand the user and the platform
* Write modern, responsive front-end code to solve a multitude of diverse needs
* Work quickly and independently under deadlines
* Be comfortable making design decisions that complement existing design
* Create new plugins to perform a variety of tasks, from custom API's to AWS SDKs
* Write clean and well documented back-end code that is stable, forward thinking, and extendable
* Develop, maintain and enhance secure, functional, usable web and batch applications
* Create documentation and user guides to support these applications
* Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with coworkers from a range of backgrounds and with varying levels of technical expertise
* Works well Collaborate with business partners and stakeholders to generate ideas and provide solutions to technological problems
* Work closely with the technical architecture team, product owner, scrum master, QA and DevOps teams to advocate for optimal technical design
* Drive technical and process innovation
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with technical and non-technical peers and stakeholders across the organization and third-party partners
* Perform rapid functional debugging, production incident triaging and root cause analysis to recommend enhancements to system stability
* Evening and weekend incident response required on a rotating schedule

Qualifications:

* 4+ years object oriented PHP programming, clean coding, re-usability, simplification, optimizing
* 4+ years HTML, CSS, and related frameworks
* 2+ years of professional front end web software coding with JavaScript and appropriate frameworks/libraries
* Experience building custom themes, plugins, widgets, WordPress filters, WordPress hooks and etc
* Proficient in working to integrate the front-end with multiple web services (primarily RESTful APIs) and integration points
* Understand visual design principles and be comfortable making decisions that complement existing design systems
* Ability to switch from front-end to back-end code as needed, able to do whatever is required to get the job done
* Experience with responsive web approach/framework/architecture/development
* Passion for performance debugging and benchmarking
* Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results
* Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field preferred, or commensurate professional experience
