SAN GABRIEL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TITLE: SITE SUPPORT TECHNICIAN QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Graduation from high school or equivalent and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed below are considered to possess the necessary education and experience. 2. Knowledge of various types of computer hardware and soft ware including Apple Macintosh and PC systems. 3. Knowledge of standard business and instructional computer software including word processing, graphics, database, spreadsheet and Internet programs. 4. Knowledge of advanced practices and techniques of computer and software trouble shooting and repair including local area network components. 5. Knowledge of basic methods and techniques for effective instruction of students. 6. Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. 7. Knowledge of general needs and behavior patterns of students at the level to which assigned. 8. Knowledge of typing, filing and other general clerical skills and basic arithmetic skills. 9. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve various types of computer and PC hardware, software and connectivity problems and failures of varying difficulty. 10. Ability to receive, process, set up, install, and maintain, instructional media hardware. 11. Ability to operate and demonstrate correct usage of various types of computer hardware and soft ware. 12. Ability to set priorities and work independently without the need for more than minimum supervision. 13. Ability to project a mature, constructive, stable and positive attitude in a learning environment. 14. Ability to use tact, discretion, courtesy and patience in dealing with and supervising students. 15. Ability to perform routing, general clerical tasks. 16. Ability to operate other standard office equipment. 17. Ability to learn pertinent procedures and functions quickly and apply them without close and immediate supervision. 18. Ability to understand the basic concepts of child growth and development and possess a genuine liking of students. 19. Organize and maintain confidential student records and files. 20. Ability to operate or learn to operate audiovisual equipment. 21. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. 22. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. REPORTS TO AND EVALUATED BY: JOB GOAL: Under general supervision, to provide computer and keyboarding instruction to groups of students in a computer lab following prescribed courses of study, to provide school wide desk top and local area network support and problem resolution services for the operation and use of personal computers, peripheral equipment, computer labs and administrative and instructional software; to oversee and supervise students; to observe, monitor and record student performance; to perform clerical and paraprofessional tasks; and to perform related duties as assigned. Duties in this position require the ability to learn to operate a computer lab, to perform a variety of school wide duties in computer hardware and software support services and to help students and teachers learn to use computers and software. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides instruction to students on word processing, key boarding, and computer assisted instruction software, using Apple computers. 2. Meets with teachers to determine programs and materials to meet student needs. 3. Evaluates student skill level and assigns work assignments accordingly. 4. Observes, monitors and reviews student work. 5. Maintains necessary student records and grades. 6. Creates schedules for classroom visits to the lab. 7. Installs and configures standard administrative software and specialized instructional or educational software as authorized. 8. Resolves hardware, software and network connectivity problems; refers more complex problems to district staff or vendors for resolution. 9. Diagnoses malfunctions; replaces components and performs other minor maintenance and repair. 10. Installs and configures new and replacement equipment. 11. Assists certificated teachers in debugging systems problems. 12. Acts as a consultant to the staff on using computers and the available computer programs. 13. Assists teachers in the computer lab; provides orientations and demonstrations to students and teachers on the use of software programs. 14. Orders, replenishes and maintains an inventory of computer lab supplies and equipment. 15. Researches and makes recommendations on basic equipment and software purchases. 16. Prepares flyers, certificates and other materials for special events. 17. Performs clerical and administrative duties in support of the computer lab. 18. Supervises overall computer lab cleanliness and order. 19. Maintains computer lab displays and exhibits. 20. Attends workshops, in-service training and meetings as required.
