A LITTLE ABOUT US

The Site Reliability Engineering team is responsible for maintaining the stability of Verizon Media's production and corporate infrastructure along with Operations Center and Engineering. We manage operations for Verizon Media's global server infrastructure components. Our team is responsible for the health and performance of more than 100,000 Verizon Media systems globally. Engineers in this role are exposed to some of the most advanced web serving infrastructure in the world!

Our team's advanced machine-learning monitoring and remediation tooling are used to ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of our network and systems infrastructure.

We are a team of highly motivated and passionate individuals that play a key role in Verizon Media by triaging and resolving impacting incidents, verify service impact to the end users, and work alongside subject matter experts to identify the root cause.

A LOT ABOUT YOU

You will be Verizon Media's 1st line of offense battling issues affecting the reliability of our products and services, you will also be responsible for interfacing with internal/external customers on operational issues, working with senior engineers resolving complex incidents, and facilitating communication between various engineering and development teams.

Teamwork will play a major role in working effectively with peers to create a positive environment within the team.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; critical thinking and troubleshooting skills; the ability to multitask in order to facilitate the resolution of multiple incidents at any given time; and the vision to automate in order to better scale and streamline the process.

YOUR DAY

* Monitor, detect and troubleshoot issues, at scale, in our global live infrastructure.


* Apply broader knowledge of technologies in remediating complex issues.


* Develop creative and practical solutions to resolve non-routine problems in own area of expertise.


* Work with development and engineering teams to harden, enhance, and support key technologies; aimed at improving product supportability and overall support productivity.


* Develop tools to automate deployment, administration, and monitoring.


* Troubleshoot and multitask issues of varying complexity and priority.


* Work with engineering and development teams to develop and improve monitoring for Verizon Media products and infrastructure.


* Create and maintain knowledge documents in accordance with the changes in property architecture.


* Weekend and/or night support schedule may be required.



YOU MUST HAVE

* BS in Computer Science or (at minimum) five years of experience in a related technical field.


* Experience in (at least) one of C, C++, Javascript, Python, Go or Java.


* Knowledge of DevOps technologies (such as Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet, Chef, GIT, Jenkins, Ansible).


* Experience with Unix/Linux environments with a strong grasp on system internals, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.


* Worked on large-scale distributed systems including multi-tiered architecture.


* Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, application security, monitoring, and storage.


* Advanced knowledge in IP routing protocols including BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, IP Multicast, MPLS, etc.


* Demonstrate empathy with non-technical audiences and engineers whose area of interest or experience lies outside of SRE and Infrastructure.


* Demonstrate strong opinions informed by experience on subjects like infrastructure-as-code, containerization, microservice orchestration, distributed systems, incident response, and AWS, and are willing to experiment to refine those opinions.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Typical candidates have a MS degree in a computer related field or equivalent experience


* Certifications such as CCNA, JNCIS, RHCSA or equivalent are preferred

Must have's and Preferred Qualifications for Network specific hires:YOU MUST HAVE

* Working knowledge of a TCP/IP network environment.


* Working knowledge of major network protocols, e.g. BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, Spanning Tree IP Multicast, MPLS, etc


* Working knowledge of basic Linux command line system health diagnostic tools.


* Working knowledge of HTTP, DNS, and DHCP is preferred.


* Analyze, design, test, install, document, implement and support complex network solutions in a hybrid O&O datacenter and public cloud (AWS) environment.


* Advanced knowledge in IP routing protocols including BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, IP Multicast, MPLS, etc.


* Network capacity management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.


* Help resolve complex Network Infrastructure issues in a Tier 2-3 Engineering capacity.


* Mentor junior staff members on day-to-day operations, analytic skills, and network technologies.


* Collaborate with architecture, design, tools, and infrastructure teams to develop sound automation solutions.


* Troubleshoot automation issues and find practical solutions to address barriers, enabling forward movement in the application lifecycle.


* Successful completion of level 2 security clearance is required.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Typical candidates have a BS degree in a computer related field or equivalent experience, Masters a plus.


* 2-5 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design, including any experience in a related program of study


* Certifications such as CCNA and JNCIA or equivalent are preferred
