Job Description

What are you looking for in your next company? An open, friendly culture? Smart application of an excellent tech stack? Real diversity? Rock-solid products? If these matter to you, we have some great things to talk about.

Hearsay Systems is looking for talented Site Reliability Engineer to join our SRE team in San Francisco, or Seattle.

Who is Hearsay?

Hearsay Systems leads the field in offering sophisticated client engagement products to companies within the financial services vertical. Founded in 2009 and helmed by Clara Shih, we are a tightly knit and dedicated group that passionately believes in our products, our people, and our culture. Our products engage customers across Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram, email, text, and voice. And every product syncs beautifully to Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, and other CRM systems.

Hearsay is used by more than 170,000 financial advisors and insurance agents. Our clients include Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, Prudential, New York Life and Allstate. We enable them to get a real-time pulse of field conversations and to trigger more effective targeted advisor-client outreach with AI-optimized calls, text messages, email follow-ups, and social media interactions.

About the role:

* You will be charged with up-leveling our team, practices and technology in an engineering organization that has achieved 99.99% back-end uptime for several years, deploys to production over 25 times a day across 30+ services, and encourages developers to "own their code" in production, including proactively monitoring for exceptions and other issues.
* This is an organization that has achieved a modern approach to deployment and production fully using cloud architecture starting as far back as 2011. In 2019 and beyond, we need to ensure we have a sustainable team (in size and skill set), ensure we have scalable practices, and ensure we're making the right investments in infrastructure to be a world-class enterprise platform.
* If you're excited about taking a well-running system to the next level and intrigued by working as a true partner to the business, come talk to us!

About you:

* We're looking for a pragmatic, hands-on Site Reliability Engineer with a focus on cloud based microservices and containers.
* Soup-to-nuts experience building, monitoring, maintaining and evolving whole-system production architectures, common pitfalls, technologies to watch, quick wins.
* Deep experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS (preferred), Azure, GCP.
* Familiarity with both configuration management (Chef, Puppet, etc) and whole-data center or global automation (CloudFormation, Terraform, etc).
* Exposure to modern software deployment concepts around immutable infrastructure, blue/green deploys, canaries, feature flags, etc.
* Familiarity with microservice-oriented and event-driven architectural concepts like CQRS, the "lambda architecture", etc.
* Strong systems programming and debugging skills -- familiar with low-level system and network debugging tools and techniques (lsof, strace/truss, dtrace/systemtap, tcpdump, etc or non-UNIX equivalents) as well as strong general debugging skills.
* Exposure to system, network, and web application security concepts and ability to work effectively with internal and external security teams.
* Strong background in an object oriented programming language like Python.
* Understanding of cloud based database technologies like RDS, Elasticache, and DynamoDB.
* Track record of learning new skills and technologies readily. As well as clear communication and documentation abilities.
* Familiarity with docker based troubleshooting and deployments.
* Experience with message queue systems (Kafka, RMQ, SQS).
* Strong experience with container orchestration technology like Kubernetes or EKS.
* Startup background or familiarity with working for a small business where your tasks might change rapidly.
* Previous on-call production support.

We're looking forward to speaking with you!
