Overview

This is a technical support position that provides systems safety engineering services in support of satellite- and ground-based navigation and landing systems acquisition and maintenance for the FAA. The successful candidate for this position will have the following job responsibilities:• Work as part of a multi-disciplined systems engineering team to evaluate development and maintenance of complex integrated systems including developmental and COTS software and hardware products.• Analyze and study complex safety system requirements.• Define and execute comprehensive Safety Assessments and Analyses according to FAA and industry standards.• Perform detailed technical reviews of plans, specifications, designs, analyses, verification procedures and results, and process definition products.• Review and audit contractor activities for compliance with pre-approved plans, processes, and procedures; assess contractor performance; record, track, and compile results; and develop detailed reporting.• Provide technical support to contract development and proposal evaluation for new software-intensive procurements.• Advise the government upon request on the acceptance and approval of technical documentation, contractor developed and integrated systems and updates.• Support Best Practices documentation development, reporting and implementation related to all products, studies and deliverables.

Qualifications

Education:

Requires Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree in a principal or discipline related to aviation or safety is desired and may substitute for 2 years experience.

Required Skills:

* A minimum of 10 years experience in engineering in the aerospace industry; two years of which must include specialized navigation experience. • Knowledge of the FAA Safety Management System (SMS) and development of Safety Risk Management (SRM) documents.• Firsthand Safety Assessment/Analysis (PHA, OSA, FHA, FTA, CCA, FMEA/FMES) development experience compliant with MIL-STD-882 and/or SAE ARP 4761.• Familiarity with DOORS, ClearCase/ClearQuest or equivalent, Microsoft Office Applications (Project, Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • *US Citizenship Required*

Desired Skills:

* System/Hardware/Software Assurance or Certification experience with safety-critical systems and avionics equipment (SAE ARP 4754, RTCA/DO-178B/DO-278/DO-254).• Knowledge of requirements and criteria for aircraft navigation and landing systems, terminal instrument procedures, non-precision and precision approaches, flight standards, air traffic requirements, and certification of safety-critical systems and avionics equipment. • Experience with Trajectory Based Operations (TBO), and Performance Based Operations (PBO). • US Government acquisition management experience, preferably with FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS).Membership in key industry working groups such as the JPDO, RTCA and collaboration efforts with leading air transportation research institutions in the U.S. or abroad.
