Job Description

Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer has the responsibility of administrating, maintaining, monitoring, expanding and troubleshooting our 24x7 IT infrastructure in multiple data center locations. The Senior Systems Engineer will work with other team members to ensure availability, reliability and performance of our compute, storage, network, application and virtualization platforms.

What You'll Do

* Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation and management of our global IT infrastructure
* Work closely with business owners to ensure that systems and services move smoothly from concept to production environments with stringent requirements for availability and performance
* Communicate clearly with peers as well as management. Provide technical leadership to more junior team members
* Perform engineering analysis of production systems including fault, capacity planning and root cause analysis for critical issues
* Analyze and resolve performance issues, capacity issues, and other issues
* Proactively monitor systems to ensure high availability with minimal downtime
* Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures and documentation
* Participate in the on-call rotation providing escalation support after-hours, weekends and holidays
* Upgrade and configure system software that supports global infrastructure applications
* Apply OS patches and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
* Configure/add new services as necessary
* Manage and escalate cases to vendors for problem resolution
* Generate or collate performance and capacity data for reporting
* Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization
* Build tools to automate processes
* Develop and sustain productive relationships with internal and client resources
* Collaborate with all functional areas of the business to identify, analyze, prioritize, mitigate and communicate project risks

* Act and work both independently and in a team environment
* Performs all other job related duties as requested
* Expert technical leadership in the design, implementation and management of our Microsoft Windows/VMware based environment
* Management of Windows Server components such as Active Directory, GPOs, etc.
* Working knowledge of MS SQL
* Strong understanding of data center design and principles for 24x7x365 highly available IT infrastructure
* Experience with MS SCCM or other monitoring style packages
* Ability to plan, scope and estimate work to produce high quality work on time and on budget
* Expert level understanding of Microsoft Active Directory principles and design
* Expert level of Hyper-V and data center infrastructure design
* Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to speak clearly and with authority
* Able to work with diverse teams (national and international) in a collaborative manner
* Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn new concepts quickly and efficiently
* Highly solution focused; strong sense of urgency with a passion for 100% availability
* Tenacious problem solver under pressure
* Experience in building scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructures to support high performance, high capacity and/or cloud computing
* MS PowerShell or similar scripting language
* ITIL or other process frameworks

What You'll Need

* 7+ years of progressive experience with large scale IT infrastructure
* B.S. in Computer Science, related field or comparable job experience
* Extensive experience operating high capacity and/or high performance database driven IT systems in a virtualization platform
* Large scale IT experience
* Working knowledge of security principles as related to infrastructure management
* Preferred:
* Industry certifications
* Proven track record of driving IT projects to completion with multiple competing priorities
* Working knowledge of MS SQL
* Solid understanding of data center design and principles - hosting experience a plus
* Experience with MS SCCM, LogicMOnitor or other monitoring packages
* Experience with ServiceNOW as a ticketing and workflow manager
* Ability to plan, scope and estimate project work to procedure deliverables on time/on budget
* Expert level understanding of Microsoft active directory principles and design
* Ability to work on a diverse team (national and international) in a collaborative manner
* Intellectual curiosity and ability to learn new concepts quickly and efficiently
* Experience with enterprise SAN and enterprise NAS in support of Vmware, Cisco UCS platform, MS PowerShell or similar scripting language, hardware maintenance and lifecycle management in a data center and ITIL experience is a plus
