Job Summary:

Under general direction, formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify applications related to complex administrative functions. Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Designs and develops all aspects of data conversion. Builds application tables, panels, and reports. Codes individual modules and complex functions. Assures appropriate software integration and external interface development. Competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities. Works with multiple stakeholders (internal and external) to define projects and manage them to completion. The Senior Systems Analyst/Programmer is responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting technology-related services for The Graduate School (TGS). This position requires a bachelor degree and four to six years of experience in management systems. This position is for an experienced software developer with strong business analysis and technical skills. This positions reports to the TGS Associate Dean of Finance.

Specific Responsibilities:

* Develop, test, deploy and maintain software application systems. Provide support and maintenance for existing systems. Research and implement new IT solutions as required.
* Manage and administer the TGS physical and virtual server computing environment. Ensure that the environment is secure, reliable and stable. Implement and test disaster recovery of critical systems.
* Define and document functional, technical and process requirements for software applications and tools to support TGS initiatives for various units within TGS.
* Install, manage, tune and administer databases supporting various applications in TGS. Design and model new databases as needed. Write data queries, provide data uploads and generate reports from information system to support TGS units operations. Perform data analysis and data modeling of collected data.
* Work with TGS units and external IT groups to define and lead technology projects.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
* Four to six years' experience in management systems in a professional information technology environment developing application software.
* Experienced application software developer with strong business analysis and technical skills; Experience with relational databases.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

* Required technical skills include: Python, Django, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, Postgres, MySQL, Apache, and Linux (RHEL)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to identify and analyze significant problems and opportunities.
* Ability to effectively present ideas verbally and in writing.
* Ability to write precise, well-organized emails, letters and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience planning and preparing procedures, performing tests, interpreting records and communicating results.
* Experience with web application authentication and authorization.
* Experience with document management solutions (OnBase).
* Experience with Apache configuration.
* Experience with Software Development Life Cycle, SCRUM, and/or Agile methodologies.
* Experience working in higher education.
