Job Description
The members of our Data Engineering department build systems and infrastructure for collecting, storing, and analyzing huge sets of data in batch and streaming pipelines. As a sub-team within Data Engineering, the Analytics Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining the experimentation platform for the company. We are looking a skilled engineer to help deliver and improve Etsy's internal experimentation platform, including our A/B testing tool. Experimentation is a critical step in the product launch process at Etsy. You will be a key member of the team, helping to guide the technical direction of the product and the team. We work in Scala, PHP, Java, Javascript, and SQL, and we work with technologies like Hadoop, Kafka, Scalding, Airflow, Avro/Thrift, Vertica, Looker, GCS, Dataproc, and BigQuery. Experience with any of these is helpful but not required.
About the Role
* Help to improve Etsy's A/B testing tool and our general experiment ecosystem, including experiment bucketing, event logging, and our offline data processes
* Work closely with the Data Engineering leadership, product development teams, and the analysts to chart the future direction of A/B testing at Etsy
* Collaborate with team members to dig into issues with experiment setup and data collection
* Act as the last line of defense for system failures owned by the team
* Mentor junior and senior engineers in the team
About You
* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Are passionate about experimentation
* Are excited about mentoring engineers
* By default write testable code, and are comfortable writing unit tests and mentoring other developers on unit testing
* Have experience working on large-scale data problems, ideally using SQL and Scalding
