Job Description

Department: Software

Location: Boston

Req#: 5337

At Sonos, we're passionate about creating the ultimate listening experience for our customers. Our partners share our passion and build compelling experiences that showcase their ingenuity alongside our own. The lever that moves this world: our platform.

Come help us build the next generation platform for controlling the Sonos system as part of a smart, Internet-connected home. You'll have a direct impact on the business, advancing a major component of our core strategy, and unlocking novel ways to control a Sonos system, such as voice and 3rd party apps.

As a Senior Software Development Manager, you will be leading a team of talented and passionate engineers creating the next generation Sonos API for direct control, which works on the LAN or through the Cloud. This role will require someone with previous experience shipping public APIs or significant software development experience. We believe that for you to build simple and easy to use APIs, you need to understand the developer community and be able to collaborate well with our partner solution architects.

About You

More than a candidate that checks every box, we're looking for people who are excited to work, learn, and grow at Sonos-no matter their background or how they identify. If that's you, we hope you'll apply for this role.

You want to be part of a team.

You come with new ideas and a unique point of view. You look forward to collaborating with a diverse team of individuals. You assume everyone's best intentions, welcome a healthy debate, and embrace differing opinions. You eagerly seek and give help. Transparency tops your list of values, and you proactively contribute to a culture of respect and inclusion.

You enjoy a challenge.

Inquisitive and focused, you see every challenge as an opportunity. You're ambitious and comfortable making mistakes because you learn from them and bounce back quickly. You would rather create the future than wait for it. You prioritize long-term value over short-term objectives.

You love to listen.

You approach every interaction with curiosity and a desire to understand. You want to make a positive impact in the world. You're passionate about culture and know the power that music, film, podcasts, games, and stories have to bring people together.

What You'll Do

* Lead a team of high performing engineers working on high impact projects and releases.
* Hire, mentor, and retain top engineering talent.
* Work with your partners across the organization to strike the delicate balance between right long-term API strategy, project deliverables, and third-party demands.
* Manage all the stages of large engineering projects from concept to design through implementation and release. This includes staffing allocation, project management and documentation.
* Mentor team members in software development skills and leadership responsibilities. Help guide their professional development and grow their careers.

Skills You'll Need

* Degree in Computer Science, related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
* Experience managing engineers of all levels and leading large software projects.
* Strong technical background in APIs and protocols, with a track record of shipping publicly available APIs.
* Programming language knowledge in C, C++, and Java. Python is a plus.
* Knowledge of Agile development methodologies, source control management, and project management tools, such as Jira.
* 8+ years of experience in software development with at least 3 years of leading teams in software development.
* Background in connected devices.
* Working knowledge of Linux.
* Domain expertise in TCP/IP networking and Wifi (802.11).
