The B2B Sales Engineering team works to support the approximately 1,000 Business Account Managers (BAMs) that sell Wayfair's products to businesses. Some of our tools are centered around Salesforce, which is the account manager's primary selling platform. For example we maintain a series of processes that control the lead funnel: how new leads make it into the funnel, how the leads are vetted and de-duplicated, and how those leads are routed to the right BAMs so they can contact them. In general, we are also the main supporting engineering team for the B2B Sales function at Wayfair, so any needs that come out of that vertical could potentially be addressed by our teams. A good example of this is when our 3rd party Salesforce-based phone system started failing at scale, we stepped in and created a POC and eventually a fully working replacement that will scale better with the help of Kubernetes. We work with distributed message queues to manipulate data at scale, with the goal of reuse in mind so that other platforms can reap the same benefits.
