What you'll be doing...

The SDN Planning group under Verizon Network Technology and Planning organization is looking for a self-motivated and innovative thinking engineer in support of Verizon SDN architecture and technology development and deployment. As a senior level member of technical staff, you will be interacting with software engineers, network/ system operations staff, network/ system architects and vendor partners to provide SDN technology evolution strategies and solutions to keep our service relevance in the market place in the fast moving and quickly evolving networking industry. Proactive technology research, industry trend analysis, and developing next generation network architecture using modern networking technology (e.g., Software Defined Networking) and providing production deployable solutions are key functions of the team. Additional responsibilities will also include:

* New technology validation and prototyping.
* Software Defined Networking (SDN) ecosystem development and vendor management.
* SDN/ NFV platform architecture and development.
* Open API (REST/ RESTCONF/ NETCONF) and data modeling (YANG) verification and development.
* Linux (KVM, OpenStack, RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) application deployment and Linux networking lab infrastructure support.
* Participate in SDN control and management protocol standardization activities.
* Participate in open source and open standard industry collaboration activities.



What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

* Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
* Six or more years of relevant work experience.
* Willingness to travel upto approximately 25% of the time.
* Seven or more years on data networking experience (LAN/ WAN and Layer 2/ Layer 3) in a service provider network or large enterprise network environment.
* Strong Layer 2/ Layer 3 network architectural design and engineering experience.
* Network operational troubleshooting and network monitoring/ analysis experience.
* Experience in Linux environments with Unix scripting and/ or software development.
* Experience with Linux virtualization environments and technologies (KVM, OVS, LXC, etc.).
* Open API (REST/ RESTCONF/ NETCONF) and data modeling (YANG) verification and development.
* Vendor technical management experience.
* NFV and/or cloud computing experience.
* New technology validation and prototyping experience.

Even better if you have:

* A degree.
* OpenFlow knowledge and experience.
* ODL knowledge and experience.
* Knowledge of SDN architecture and technology (control plane, data plane, management plane, orchestration, etc.).
* Open Source tools development, implementation, and collaboration experience.
* SDN/ NFV driven open source project and open standard experience (OpenStack, ODL, ONL, ONOS, etc.).
* Policy driven network design.
* Knowledge of optical network technologies.
* Industry technology leadership skills.
* Network or system software development experience.
* Multi-vendor system integration experience.
* Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning new technologies with minimal oversight.
* Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal/ written) skills
