Responsibilities

The Modeling & Simulation Senior Project Leader (M&S SPL) will lead project teams in the analysis and evaluation of satellite prototypes and future space systems to inform and define the Space & Missile Systems Center (SMC) Portfolio Architecture. The M&S SPL oversees project planning, assigns resources, determines staffing needs, coordinates activities and communicates with customers, counterpart organizations and management. This is a unique opportunity to assess and prioritize the future satellite concepts and systems to be built and flown by the U.S. Air Force.

Key Functions

The Modeling & Simulation Senior Project Leader manages projects to quantify mission effectiveness, predict system performance and resiliency, estimate lifecycle costs, and perform trade studies and "What-if?" analyses. The M&S SPL will work closely with the Portfolio Architecture Team to evaluate and prioritize the prototypes and systems that SMC acquires. The M&S SPL will also work closely with Aerospace's Engineering & Technology Group to execute projects. Specific tasks include:

* Developing analysis plans that define objectives, specific questions or problems to be addressed and overall approach for resolution;
* Determining assessment criteria and technical performance metrics to be used for evaluation;
* Evaluating the applicability of existing models and simulations, and assessing the need for and planning the development of new models and simulations;
* Defining existing/programmed mission area capabilities, and threats and scenarios to be utilized;
* Establishing baseline architecture performance and capability/resiliency gaps;
* Assessing the contribution of prototypes and new system concepts to mission capability and resilience;
* Interpreting, documenting and presenting analysis results.

Qualifications

Required

* A bachelor's degree in science, math or engineering
* 12 or more years of progressively responsible work experience in space system modeling, simulation and analysis
* Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work in a team environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of contractors, customers, and corporate staff
* Broad familiarity with SMC organizations, missions, architectures and systems
* Excellent communication skills - can organize and present complex materials and concepts in a manner that is clear and logical
* Some travel is required
* Eligible for a Top Secret clearance and SCI access

Preferred

* An advanced degree in science, math or engineering
* Substantial experience and technical depth in one or more of the following areas: Missile Warning/Missile Defense, Satellite Communications, Global Positioning Systems, Space Based Radar or Space Control
* Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools
* Current TS/SCI and eligibility for SAP
