Job Description

Cyber Security Engineer/Architect:

At least 5 years of experience in the IT Cybersecurity domain performing the functions as described herein. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations. Is committed to providing quality products and services.

Organizational 14 Awareness - Understands how the organization's social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively within them. Understands how programs, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations drive and impact the work and objectives of the organization.

Automated Information Systems - Configures computer hardware, software, firmware, or any combination of these, to accomplish specific information-handling operations, such as communication, computation, dissemination, processing, and storage of information. Configuration Management - Applies system engineering knowledge, principles, and methodologies to establish and maintain consistency of performance, functional, and physical attributes with its requirements, design, and operational information throughout its life.

Data Analysis - Seeks, collects, synthesizes, and/or analyzes qualitative and quantitative data and information from a variety of sources to reach decisions and make recommendations. Compile reports, briefings, executive summaries, and other correspondence to communicate results. Information Assurance - Protects and defends information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity. Manages risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information or data and the systems and processes used for those purposes.

Information System Architecture - Understands the design and contents of the computerized system of the USPTO: business processes and rules, systems structure, technical framework, and product technologies that include detailed inventories, functionality, and data storage details for a system. IT Infrastructure Knowledge - Interprets agency's composite hardware, software, network resources and services required for the existence, operation, and management of the IT environment to deliver IT solutions and services to its employees, partners and/or customers.

IT Problem Solving - Identifies and assesses the priority/severity of IT-related issues; applies expert technical knowledge to solve complex problems; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives; makes decisions or recommendations that influence IT policies or programs; applies new developments to previously unresolved problems.

Network Administration - Working knowledge to perform a wide array of operational tasks to ensure the network runs smoothly and efficiently including design, installation and evaluation of the network, execution and administration of regular backups, creating technical documentation, and administration of network security. Requirements Management - Develops a plan for implementation of requirements determined during the requirements analysis; controls changes to the requirements, and communicates those changes to relevant stakeholders.

Software/System Development Life Cycle - Understands application-development life cycle, used in an information system development project from an initial feasibility study through maintenance of the completed application. System Administration - Working knowledge of a multi-user computing environment, such as a local area network (LAN), including installation and configuration of system hardware and software, establishing and managing user accounts, and upgrading software and backup and recovery tasks.

Systems Integration - Streamlines component subsystems and ensures that the subsystems function cohesively; understands the upstream and downstream impacts of a system integration. System Security - Applies processes and methodologies to keep information confidential and available, and maintains its integrity through access control, protection of information in transit or in a storage area, detection and remediation of security breaches, remediation of Plan of Action and Milestones (POAMs), as well as documenting and informing security services personnel of such events.

Public trust clearance is required. Certification Requirement(s): CISSP
