Job Description

This is an exciting time to join Arena Pharmaceuticals, a clinical stage biotechnology pharmaceutical company with a robust portfolio of assets across multiple therapeutic areas.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Program Management (SDPM), the Senior Manager of Program Management (SMPM) is responsible for the overall business analysis of all therapeutic programs including the consolidation and synthesizing of data across the portfolio. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, automating, optimizing and streamlining processes; creating, modifying and enhancing automated tools and templates; data/information management; reporting, metrics and KPI's; and the consolidation and harmonization of data associated with drug candidates in the pipeline in clear, reportable and actionable dashboard(s) and reports. Finally, the SMPM supports the SDPM in the establishment and harmonization of program management's processes, standards, tools and best practices.

What you'll dive into

* Utilizing various methodologies, analyzes and synthesizes data across therapeutic programs
* Analyzes, develops and drives continuous improvements associated with program management tools, including project management applications, and develops templates to ensure "best in class" presentation and performance
* Creates, manages, and synthesizes portfolio reports for team members, leadership and key stakeholders
* Develops and harmonizes dashboards, KPI's and metrics associated with the portfolio of products in the product development and commercialization pipeline
* Manages information flow conventions/hierarchy and business processes associated with PM collaboration tools such as SmartSheet & SharePoint
* Applies project management understanding, methodologies and standards to assigned projects in line with best practices (e.g., PMBOK)
* Contributes to the content/content buildout to the product team collaboration sites
* Ensures consistency/ease-of-use of all templates/tools the program management team is utilizing
* Facilitates group/team/portfolio meetings, from a technical standpoint, ensuring results-oriented meetings; Captures appropriate information and notes as required
* Liaison between the program management team and information technology as well as corporate planning; Acts as the technical business partner to other departments and key stakeholders
* Manages and supports vendors associated with business analysis and project management applications
* Streamlines and automates processes and practices
* Participates in development and improvement of key business processes, tools and templates related to program management, and cross-functional pharmaceutical product development
* Recommends future state enhancements, programs and/or applications, in line best practices and PM maturity models
* Tracks progress of programs against all targets, and produces timely and accurate status reports to the key stakeholders/management/team members via a (consolidated) dashboard
* Trains team members on modified, new and innovative technical solutions, tools and templates
* Translates information technical terminology into layman's terms for those less technically savvy
* Other duties as assigned or required

What we expect

* Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, PhD) is preferred
* PMP or similar certification preferred (current or in process)
* Business analysis training and/or certification(s) such as Kaizen, Six Sigma or similar methodologies are desirable
* 5-8+ years of relevant and progressive experience required
* 3+ years of business and/or program analysis (or similar) experience required
* Significant to advanced experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Project, Excel, Power Point and SharePoint required; Experience with SmartSheet or similar work management softwares/systems highly preferred
* Significant to advanced experience and understanding of IT systems infrastructure, file naming conventions and architecture
* Experience in full-cycle drug development/pharma highly preferred
* Ability and passion to work in demanding, dynamic, fluid and fast-paced environment
* Ability to see "the big picture" and act strategically
* Broad understanding of program management and associated deliverables, tools, templates and softwares/systems
* Demonstrated ability to analyze and streamline processes, procedures and protocols
* Demonstrated ability to organize multiple priorities and projects
* Demonstrated ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects, and to deliver high-quality work according to tight timelines
* Demonstrated ability to work with vast amounts of broad data, bringing cohesive reporting and information flow across a function, department or company
* Demonstrates excellent communication (verbal/written/presentation) skills
* Demonstrates sound judgment, facilitation and interpersonal skills
* Detail-oriented with effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
* Process oriented with the ability to understand and synthesize complex data and information
* Passion for science and technology
* Travel up to 10% (US and International)
