Position Summary

Samsung Austin R&D Center (SARC) is hiring a Senior Linux Engineer/Architect in the IT group.

SARC was founded in 2010 to develop the best CPU and System IP for Samsung mobile products (Samsung Galaxy S-series, Samsung Note-series).

The IT group is organized into service teams with different roles of varying technical experience and expertise, including a team leader. The structure allows for a truly collaborative environment that cultivates teamwork, knowledge growth and friendships. Each group is responsible for the care of services in the portfolio and shares the work as necessary with the IT group. The structure creates an environment where every day is diverse and a person never gets pigeon-holed into a particular line of technical work. The engineering team has extensive experience and a broad background in the development of advanced CPU designs and System IP for various market segments. The management team has extensive experience building world-class teams, fostering an outstanding work environment and enabling creativity.

SARC needs a Senior Linux Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in multi technology infrastructure design and implementation. The position will be primarily responsible for architecture, design, building and supporting a growing Linux Compute and secure DMZ environments that includes high performance computing infrastructure and services for large scale engineering development.

Responsibilities:

* Design, build, and support secure isolated multi-tenant environments and infrastructures
* Technical liaison and point of contact for new Engineering and Information Security

requirements

* Act as coordinator with other internal IT teams such as Networking, Storage, Security,

Data center team as well as external IT teams

* Automate and continuously improve existing processes
* Improve and refine system and service monitoring
* Hands-on server/hardware debugging and problem remediation
* Implement solutions to problems of diverse scope in specific areas, including data

analysis to identify root cause and contributing factors

* Improve and refining standard server OS deployments and provisioning processes
* Develop and maintain documentation on related service management, service

improvement, and service delivery

* Apply technologies related to internal cloud, containers and software based networking to

provide efficient environment deployments and management

Role and Responsibilities

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent field
* 5+ years' experience in a Linux system administrator role
* Significant experience designing, building, configuring, and administering large scale Linux/NFS environments
* Subject matter expert in Active Directory, LDAP, NIS and PAM authentication integration
* Senior level expertise with Linux operating systems including operations in a large scale production environment
* Expertise with most Linux operating system commands and utilities
* Strong understanding of networking technologies (routing, switching, firewalls, and iptables, etc.)
* Strong understanding of Security considerations in Linux and Network infrastructure
* Familiar with virtualization environments and tools such as VMWare, vCenter, vCenter Orchestrator
* Familiar with monitoring systems such as Zenoss, SolarWinds, AppDynamics
* Experience with change management best practices and procedures
* Hands-on experience with CFEngine, Redhat Satellite, PXE, Kickstart, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, or similar configuration and automation tools and practices
* Proficient software skills including programming and scripting in Python, Perl, Bash, or similar scripting language for operating system and hardware administration
* Experience with system and application monitoring, software distribution, patching and maintenance in a Linux environment
* Experience with common internet protocols and services including TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SSH, TFTP, NIS, LDAP & AD
* Experience with a collaboration/ticket system such as: JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow
* Robust troubleshooting and analytical skills
* Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences
* Experience with source code management tools such as git
* Experience building, configuring, and administering Linux internal cloud deployments
* Experience with internal cloud environments such as OpenStack, OpenShift, Kubernetes

Skills and Qualifications

* Experience administering Linux systems in an EDA environment
* Experience with high performance computing (HPC) environments, compute grid/batch systems (LSF, etc.)
* Experience with remote desktop protocol support such as EOD, NoMachine
