Position Description:

Macmillan Publishers has a job opening for a Sr Java Developer. On a day-to-day basis, you will work alongside a talented team that is small, dynamic, and agile with opportunities to have high impact to the organization. The Senior Java Developer position will manage and support MarkLogic and RSuite, our ontent management system. This includes the maintenance, extension and tuning of the MarkLogic database as well as supporting and extending RSuite per requirements for publishing and content creation workflows.

Major Responsibilities:

* Implements and contributes to new software design or enhancements to existing software
* Follow agile software development and help write and improve software and process documentation
* Provides completion estimates of his/her tasks for project scheduling purposes
* Conducts quality assurance activities such as peer reviews
* Write and execute automated unit, system and integration tests
* Improve and maintain the existing software performance

Required Skills / Knowledge:

* Experience using one or more leading Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
* 5 to 7 years Java development experience
* Linux & Windows system adminsitration
* Experience writing REST or other web services
* Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices
* Experience with continuous integration and deployment environments (Jenkins or similar)
* Experience developing for Web Content Management Systems (RSuite or other CMS)
* Unit & Automation Testing experience
* Amazon Web Services and Micro Services experience

Experience Needed:

* Publishing Experience is a plus
* Experience in and/or strong desire to learn cloud data storage systems (MarkLogic or similar)
* Practical knowledge of configuration and issue management tools (such as Subversion/Mercury/Git and Trac/JIRA/Rally).
* Experience in developing Web Services, programming with object oriented and/or declarative languages including experience with XML technologies such as XSLT, XQuery and/or XPath.
* 3 to 5 years of experience developing web-based solutions using one or more of the following technologies such as HTML, JSON, CSS, JavaScript (including libraries and frameworks such as GWT, ExtJS, or D3.js)
* Experience with Docker, Chef, Puppet or similar orchestrators/containers

Educational Background Required:

* College Degree or required work experience in the field
