Description

The Senior Desktop Engineer lead performs high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for complex operating systems, workstations and servers.

* Coordinates, directs and performs complex software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
* Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
* Continually monitors and tunes multiple systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
* Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions of varying complexities.
* Ensures data/media recoverability by developing and implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
* Plans and implements the modernization of servers. Develops, implements and promotes standard operating procedures and schedules.
* Conducts hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
* Develops and implements new standards, policies and procedures. Incumbent in this job works closely with Network and Systems Analysts to help determine and develop the systems that will be implemented.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

* Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field and nine (9) years or more of related experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more of related experience.



Required Skills:

* Recommends and develops global hardware and software standards;


* Security and policy enforcement using automated tools and scripting;


* Develops automated hardware deployment routines;


* Recommends, develops, supports and implements asset management systems;


* Maintains standard management platforms such as SCCM, Intune, PXE, WSUS, Jamf;


* Provides training, process and procedure documentation for Desktop Technicians and end-users. o Ensure software compliance;


* Establish a global standard for training environments;


* Solid problem solving and analytical skills;


* Self-starter who continually develops and broadens their skill set;


* Demonstrates technical proficiency through the pursuit and achievement of industry certifications;


* Flexibility and willingness to be on-call and available, including weekends, and participate in a team on- call rotation;


* Works with other IT and software development teams to ensure technology process and support integration;


* Organization and documentation skills;


* Working knowledge of networking topologies, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, PXE, Wireless;


* Experience in design, engineering, implementing and supporting Desktop engineering and deployment.


* Experience in desktop imaging and software distribution in a medium or large environment (more than 10,000 desktops).


* Experience of desktop security patch deployment.


* Previous Supervisor experience of projects or project teams.


* Proficient in analytical project planning, negotiating, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
