Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior DBA will develop, implement, administer, and maintain policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company database. He or she will implement data models, database designs, data access and table maintenance codes as well as resolve database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast response to front-end users and other members of the IT Applications team
* Query tuning and optimization of tables and related indexes
* Migration of databases to new, often upgraded environments
* Ensuring data availability through AlwaysOn mirroring at a DR site
* Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS
* Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
* Ensuring maintenance standards are in place, including indexing, statistics and data integrity
* Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary
* Controlling access permissions, privileges and overall security in the database environment
* Developing, managing and testing accuracy of back-ups
* Ensuring that storage is appropriately utilized and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
* Capacity planning with an emphasis on minimizing core cost
* Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers, and report developers
* Communicating regularly with technical, applications, and operational stuff to ensure database integrity and security
* Owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests and resolving incidents within SLAs
* Reviewing service related reports on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs
* Responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with database engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

* At least 8 years of SQL Server experience as either a SQL Server Administrator (SA) or Database Administrator (DBA)
* Experience with SQL Server 2012 and up is required
* Experience with SQL Always On Availability Groups is required
* Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
* Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, clustering, database mirroring, and replication
* High sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned
* Proactively escalate any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes
* Knowledge of ETL is a plus
* Friendly presence and helpful attitude; good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Attention to detail
* Ability to provide support over the phone or in person while always maintaining a professional demeanor
* Good problem solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it
* Must demonstrate strong working knowledge of the Transact SQL (TSQL) programming language
* Experience with SSIS/SSRS package development/creation, reporting tools, query tools and installation and configuration of SQL Server and SQL Server client / Management tools
* Working knowledge of SQL Server Clustering, data replication to include log shipping and database mirroring required
* Knowledge in Oracle administration a plus, but primary focus must be SQL Server 2008 - 2016
* Strong understanding of Windows Operating Systems, use of networking protocols, data encryption and how this relates to databases a must
* Must be able to execute tasks in a high-pressured environment as well as 24x7 support when needed

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields
