We're seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our team to help us build new and exciting data science and ML-driven products and services for our customers. This Senior Data Scientist will work with cutting edge experts in ML, Engineering, and Data.

The Senior Data Scientist will be a key leader in building innovative new products and services to inspire and delight our customers. You will be a key voice in conversations around business development, strategy, and operations.

Bitly needs someone who can rapidly execute projects without losing sight of the long-term vision. You are a technical rock star who is comfortable writing code, but also has a mind for business and creative thinking skills for solving customer challenges and identifying customer delight opportunities. Additionally, the role requires a high-degree of flexibility and intellectual curiosity.

This role will be based in Bitly's SF office and report into the Chief Data Officer's organization, working regularly with the CDO and other technical leaders.

Responsibilities:

* Create leading-edge ML algorithms that surface new and innovative insights to our customers
* Drive the development of ML products and services end-to-end, in close partnership with Engineering
* Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Analytics, and Data to pilot new innovation ideas for leveraging ML of unstructured and semi-structured data to inspire and delight our customers
* If desired, the Senior Data Scientist in this role may have the opportunity to mentor or lead other team members
* Be a culture leader that helps focus Bitly Data on ways to hockey-stick growth

Must haves:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research or similar technical field preferred; Master's or Ph.D. strongly preferred
* Minimum 3-4 years' practical experience applying ML algorithms outside of an academic context; experience in leveraging ML in development of products, services, or features in a commercial context strongly preferred
* Deep understanding of the technical underpinning behind unsupervised learning / ML / NLP algorithms used for searching and indexing and mining unstructured and semi-structured data
* Experience not only building ML algorithms but also driving model testing, validation, and deployment at scale, including how to structure statistically sound validation testing
* Experience deploying ML at scale in a cloud-based environment (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) strongly preferred
* Strong proficiency with R and/or Python (or similar scripting languages)
* Experience not only using off-the-shelf open-sourced libraries but also writing your own libraries or contributing to open-sourced libraries is preferred
* Proficiency writing complex SQL queries
* Candidates with a desire to mentor, lead, and grow other data scientists preferred
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong ability to communicate effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences
* Willingness to take on big challenges and own the results from ideation through execution
