Summary

Seeking a Senior Communication Systems Engineer for the LAX Automated People Mover (APM) project in Los Angeles. The APM is an electric train system on a 2.25 mile elevated guideway with six stations total, for Los Angeles International Airport. Early work construction began in May 2018, and the system is expected to be open for passenger service in 2023. The construction portion of the contract is valued at over $2 billion.

Essential Functions

Serve as a Senior Communication Systems Engineer in the conceptual, preliminary and final design for a complex rail transit project. Responsibilities include:

o Help to develop Systems Integration Plan

o Develop Integration Test and Acceptance plans including testing forms, procedures for testing, and approval steps.

o Coordinate integration of all System interfaces so that the System is properly integrated with itself, existing systems, and into the Project area, including the right-of-way, the surrounding communities, and all facilities, equipment, and data provided by others.

o Establish and maintain a systematic, documented, comprehensive, and verifiable systems integration process to be applied throughout the duration of the Project.

o Assuring accuracy of the work produced by the design team and contractors, including plans, specifications and estimates.

o Responsible for interfacing with other disciplines to insure proper coordination of the systems aspects of the project

o Responsible for interface management and requirements fulfillment and will provide direction to project engineering teams in order to achieve Owner specified technical requirements and schedules.

o Develop and coordinate Interface Control Documents.

o Provide oversight of systems integrating testing and systems acceptance testing.

o Interface with the Systems Manager to determine schedules, monitor design progress, support systems integration, and coordinate T&C activities.

Preferred Qualifications

o Professional Engineer registration is a plus.

o Experience in design and/or construction management of rail transit systems such as CBTC, SCADA, APM signals/train control, and APM communications is preferred.

o Knowledge of railroading, signaling, communications, vehicles, and other railroad technology including requirements management software is preferred.

o Track record of systems integration, systems acceptance, and rail safety certification.

o Knowledge of communications and central control facilities is preferred.

o Understanding of construction means and methods.

o Excellent written and oral communication skills.

o Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematic diagrams.

o Ability to work in a cooperative team environment.

o Willing to work 60 hours/week and weekends when necessary.

o Willing to relocate to Los Angeles, California; if not local.
