About the UnitThe Department of Safety & Security (DSS) encompasses Emergency Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Campus Safety, Security Systems, Transportation & Parking Services and the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD). DSS is a unit within the Division of Finance and Administration, reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel and is led by the Associate Vice President for Safety & Security. The department is tasked with the development and implementation of comprehensive safety strategies that serve the university community, strengthen collaborations between the DSS and students, faculty, staff and neighbors, and are appropriately aligned with institutional values and priorities. The University of Chicago campus is part of Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, which contains a significant amount of off-campus University property. In addition to the students housed on campus and in the areas adjacent, more than a third of the University's staff resides in areas surrounding the campus, and more than 50% of the University's faculty resides in the Hyde Park area. By long tradition, the University works with the city of Chicago providing safety and security options in Hyde Park and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Responsible for campus police and patrol units, and organizes security programs and safety education. Manages electronic safety systems, including 24 hour emergency response systems throughout the campus.

Plans, develops, implements, and manages security and related systems and programs that provide a safe and secure working environment at the University. Maintains daily operational performance management of electronic security systems. Evaluates and analyzes the performance of University security system programs.

M1: Supervises the daily activities of business or technical support or operations team. Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager. Typically does not perform the work supervised.

ResponsibilitiesThe job supervises a team of support staff who assist in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of security and related systems and programs that provide a safe and secure working environment at the University. Responsible for daily operational performance management of electronic security systems.

1) Maintains daily operational performance of electronic security systems., 2) Monitors quality assurance and customer feedback, incorporating them into daily plans to deliver optimal security and technology services., 3) Ensures that team addresses customer needs in accordance with quality assurance standards. Participates in the design and management of security systems projects at the University., 4) Meets and works with Divisions/Schools/Centers, facilities services, and contract management teams to provide guidance on security technology matters., 5) Performs other related work as needed.

Unit-specific Responsibilities

1) The Security Systems Coordinator works within a team based environment and assists in providing direction, installation, support, and service for security systems and technology including access control systems, video management systems and alarms. This is accomplished through collaboration with campus partners, vendors, and other university community members to provide progressive, coordinated physical security, electronic security and other safety services.

2) Assists with the programming and installation of endpoint devices including cameras and access control components.

3) Assists with the programming of user groups and schedules within the security technology applications.

4) Assists in maintaining the operational performance management of electronic security systems.

5) Ensures quality assurance and customer satisfaction (internal & external) and provides best in class security, IT, and systems support in accordance with the operational mission of the Department.

6) Ensure clients' and end users' are provided professional, courteous and timely support and service.

7) Develop a strong working knowledge of clients' and users' areas of responsibility.

8) Collaborates with internal and campus partners to provide guidance and oversight on security technology matters.

9) Ensures that security technology projects and hardware deployments conform to documented design standards and security technology policies & procedures.

10) Prepares and presents regular status updates related to projects, service and maintenance and other initiatives.

11) Provides end-user security systems and application training to campus partners

12) Works with system vendors' technical support to troubleshoot and resolve problems or address system improvements in support of the systems in use by the Department.

13) Provides on-call technical support for security and law enforcement systems

14) Assists in the management and oversight of security systems projects at the University of Chicago

15) Reviewing project proposals and quotes to ensure technical and departmental requirements are met

16) Ensure that projects meet clients' and users' needs and expectations of quality and functionality.

17) Maintains productive working relationships with the Divisions of the Department of Safety and Security and other essential campus partners including IT Services and Facilities Services.

18) Ensures that the DSS information technology infrastructure is being maintained, and is utilized in compliance with all University of Chicago standards.

19) Supports University of Chicago Information Technology standards and security policies.

20) Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and CertificationsMinimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

1) Bachelor's degree.

Experience

1) Valid driver's license that grants reciprocity in the State of Illinois or is eligible to obtain one and do so within 60 days of appointment.

2) Pass a background investigation with no prior criminal convictions that would prohibit the individual from working within a law enforcement environment.

3) A minimum of three years' experience supporting security and/or law enforcement technology .

4) Experience working in a campus public safety environment.
