Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Principal Research Scientist in the area of Advanced Computing. In this role, the candidate will support research and development for Construction of Computing Systems; Analysis, Visibility and Insight into Computing Systems; and Foundations of Advanced Computing applied to trusted computing in Autonomy. This include: programming languages, modeling of computing systems, development tools, compilers, and probabilistic programming; Static and Dynamic analysis, run time instrumentation and verification, reverse engineering, explainable software, artificial intelligence, trustworthy systems; OS for distributed Systems, computer architecture, distributed computing, compiler backend and optimization, formal methods.

The candidate will be engaged in R&D efforts through all phases of its lifecycle, from brainstorming and conceptualization, to opportunity identification and development, to leading research and experimentation during program execution. The candidate will craft whitepaper and proposals elements encapsulating ideas, publish and present results in peer-reviewed venues, and actively engage in the roader research community through professional leadership activities. He/she will focus on trusted computing, from clean-slate architectures to software assurance to self-aware and self-adapting software, with applications to autonomy.

The BAE Systems' Collaboration, Architecture, & Reasoning Technologies (CART) directorate is a leading multidisciplinary R&D department dedicated to meeting critical U.S. military needs. Our directorate specializes in research in computer science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence for autonomous systems - investigating, developing, and evaluating innovative technology across a variety of domains for customers in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC). Our research spans the R&D lifecycle, from basic and applied research up through advanced technology demonstration to transitioning our results to business areas within our organization and in some cases directly to our government customers.
