We are searching for a Scientist 5 at our San Leandro, CA location.

Summary

Engages in initiating, designing, developing, executing and implementing scientific research projects.Incumbent applies advanced principles, theories and concepts and has acquired national recognition.Contributes to the development of new principles ad concepts.Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.Assignments are often self-initiated.Determines and pursues course of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work is reviewed through consultation with others rather than by formal review of superior.Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects.Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbents are responsible for applicable activities, responsibilities, knowledge, skills and activities covered in the previous Scientist descriptions, plus the following:

* Plans and performs scientific duties on new and varied problems where only general objectives are stated.


* Performs advanced development work to obtain or maintain technical leadership in assigned field.


* Investigates and advises management regarding feasibility of new projects, systems or approaches.


* Identifies, defines and recommends solutions to significant technical and economic problems based on general input from management.


* Assumes lead role in project or program, performs technical coordination and leads others.


* Demonstrates creative ability through problem solving, scientific reports or technical papers and articles.


* Writes articles and papers for professional societies covering broad phases of the assignment and actively participates in the committee work of professional societies working with people outside the company.


* Reviews reports, patents, literature and other data to maintain an up-to-date comprehensive understanding of the latest developments in the technical field as it pertains to the scope of responsibility.


* Collaborates with supervisor to determine scheduling, budget, manpower, equipment and supplies for assigned project.


* Provides economic estimates for new projects.


* Sells products and services.


* Reviews budgets of one or more organizational unit or project.


* Plans the technical direction of complex engineering research programs.
