Job Description

The travel industry is one of the top 10 transaction processors among banks and social networks. A typical traveler generates at least twice as much data as a savvy internet user. With travel industry being highly complex and data-driven, this role identifies and solves interesting puzzles which leads to innovative products or directly benefits the financials of the company.

Under minimal direction this role is responsible for innovation in the travel space. The successful candidate will be able to identify and prioritize potential ideas, communicate them effectively, gather input from industry experts, and look at the ideas from the point of view of different types of travel industry players (i.e. travel suppliers, travel agents, travel management companies, corporations and travelers alike). This role is also responsible for helping immediate team or internal customers in various business decisions for products and services by using the available data both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities

The Sabre Labs and Research intern will be assigned a specific project (or series of projects) that will entail developing software and contributing to innovative products. The intern will collaborate with existing team members for guidance and project delivery.

Develop Cloud, Data Science, Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning based solutions to understand our business and solve problems using Sabre and/or external data

Partner with other Labs and Research team members, data scientists, research scientist, operations research scientists, data architects and product managers to deliver a short-term solution

Coordinate own work plan and prioritize workflow and projects

Job Requirements

Strong passion for software development and interest in systems programming or applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems Interest in travel related software and applications

Strong interest in cleaning, manipulating, transforming and merging real-world data of large scale and complex structure Experienced in implementing working software using R, Python, Java or other languages Skilled in developing and working with software on the Cloud (such as Amazon Web Services, Openshift from RedHat etc.) Strong understanding of Python modules related to Machine Learning and Deep Learning such as: scikit-learn, Theano, Tensorflow, Kaffe, and other key modules such as Pandas, numpy, scipy etc. (alternatively, equivalent packages in R) Knowledge of RMDB and SQL

Familiar with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive or Spark Experienced in data visualization tools such as T ableau, ggplot, D3 etc. T eamwork-oriented with excellent communication skills to explain complicated analytical solutions to non-technical audience.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and actively pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Statistics/Applied Math/Operational Research or related field. Able to aprticipate in an internship in Fall 2019 and/or Winter 2020 in Boston, MA.A strong passion to identify and solve real business problems using data from disparate sources Ability to work independently and with minimal or no direction

Entrepreneurial mindset to identify and promote innovative travel products, and solve the internal puzzles and prototype the end product Ability to rapid prototype and move seamlessly between business problems and solutions

Creativity in using available tools and out-of-the-box thinking to provide the best solution to problems Persistence and willingness to learn and apply new techniques/tools constantly
