Job Description

The Promise Optimization team seeks to identify the optimal delivery option for whatever a customer wants. We believe that finding an optimal promise and living up to it consistently improves our customer experience because we increase customers' confidence and trust in Amazon as the one, best option to get what you want, when you want it. To get there, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people. We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join as a senior research scientist for Promise Optimization.

As the team's research scientist, you will be responsible for building and implementing optimization algorithms that will help ensure that we are committing our scarce transportation capacity toward its highest value uses. Your solutions will be deployed in software applications worldwide, affecting millions of decisions, to improve the customer experience and ensure efficient allocation of resources. You will also be asked to build production predictive algorithms to predict delivery speed for millions of offers each day, to shape website traffic toward items that will delight customers. You will work closely with a team of software and data engineers, product managers, economists, and applied scientists to leverage diverse perspectives, toolkits, and solutions to improve your final product. You will be a standard bearer on engineering and scientific best practices for production models and serve as a technical liaison to the software engineers whose systems depend on our models. On all projects, you will balance analytical rigor with pragmatism, focusing on delivering value for the business question at hand and inventing and simplifying where possible.

Responsibilities include:

* Working with economists, data engineers, software engineers, and applied scientists to design, test, implement, and support predictive and operations research optimization models in production software environments to optimize resource allocation decisions
* Ensuring that production models are robust, scalable, and address business and software engineering requirements
* Recognizing and adopting best practices in analysis, data and model integrity, test design, validation, and documentation
* Advocating technical solutions to business stakeholders, engineering teams, as well as executive level decision makers
* Creating policy evaluation methods to track the actual performance of devised solutions in production systems, identify areas with potential for improvement and work with internal teams to improve the solution with new features
