Job Description
At Facebook Reality Labs our goal is to invent user input and interface technologies that will drive the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. As a Research Scientist in Computational Interaction group at Facebook Reality Labs in Redmond WA, you would focus on developing and driving a world-class research agenda that combines contextual information with multimodal user input (e.g., body actions, gaze, speech, etc.) to improve MR interactions and interfaces. Researchers should be passionate about working on solutions that leverage both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) domains, and are expected to have a strong computational background as well as a strong motivation to integrate their work into real-time interactive AR/VR systems. Researchers will have the opportunity to publish in peer-reviewed conferences and journals and are expected to leverage various cross-disciplinary experts, including human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, applied machine learning, perceptual science, and design.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Plan and execute cutting-edge research agenda to advance interactions and interfaces in multimodal mixed reality scenarios
Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and designers across disciplines to solve complex problems and evaluate the effectiveness of developed solutions through user evaluations
Work closely with peer research and incubation groups to incorporate scientific advances into larger cross-group efforts
Publish and present papers at international conferences and journals, attend top conferences in human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, and related fields
Mentor and supervise PostDocs and PhD interns
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree or completing a postdoctoral assignment in computer science, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, robotics, or related field
Demonstrated experience of HCI fundamentals, including experience in design and evaluation of interfaces and input technologies
Demonstrated experience applying machine learning solutions to real-time interactive problem
Demonstrated experience in computational research
3+ years of experience in C++ or Python
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Must be available to start employment on or after March 1, 2019
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* PostDoc in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, or related field
Demonstrated experience with speech recognition and natural language processing, including conversational assistants (e.g., Siri, Cortana, Google Assistant, chatbots)
Demonstrated experience with Deep Learning frameworks (Caffe, Torch, TensorFlow, or similar)
Demonstrated experience with 3D Graphics software and development (including Unreal or Unity game engines)
Demonstrated experience with Computer Vision, Image Processing, and 3D Graphics
Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CHI, UIST, IUI, ICMI, AAAI, ISMAR, VR, SIGGRAPH, CVPR, NIPS or similar
