Job Description

Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The Surreal Vision research group at FRL is looking for the next generation of scientists and engineers to solve the research challenges on the path to building future machine perception enabled technologies. The aim of this internship project is to develop and advance computer vision algorithms and SW systems for real-time and offline SLAM, sensor fusion, structure from motion, visual odometry, sensor/display calibration, 3D reconstruction and relocalization.

Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Research, develop and prototype advanced tightly integrated hardware and software technologies in the domain of tracking, 3D reconstruction, localization, SFM, calibration automation etc.



Analyze and improve efficiency, accuracy, scalability and stability of currently deployed systems

Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines

Communication of research agenda, progress and results

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op



Pursuing a PhD degree in the field of Computer Science, Computer Vision, Robotics or equivalent

Experience in geometric computer vision, including tracking, SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, sensor/display calibration, large-scale structure from motion or relocalization technologies

Knowledge with Mathematical and numerical optimization, linear algebra, probabilistic estimation and 3D geometry

2+ years C++ experience and modern C++ features

Experience understanding, developing, and analyzing systems

Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Must be available for 3 month to 6 month internship between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience with SLAM systems e.g. monocular, stereo, visual-inertial or RGBD



Background in optics or computational imaging

Experience working in a Linux environment

Experience in GPU programming such as CUDA

Broad understanding of the full machine vision pipeline from sensors to high-level algorithms

Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CVPR, ECCV/ICCV, BMVC, or SIGGRAPH

Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
