Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, and six (6) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology, inclusive of at least two (2) years of managerial/supervisory experience in a related research area, required. Ability to program in Python, Perl, and C languages is also required. Additional related education may be considered in lieu of related research experience.
Job Duties
* Perform or direct others to perform complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies and results. Manage assigned research projects with minimal input from the Principle Investigator. * Manage computer hardware and software programming and maintenance for one or more research laboratories. Ensure existing systems meet the continuing needs of the labs and/or recommend and test new systems as necessary. * Establish and maintain collaborative relationships between different departments, universities and community partners. Serve as lead research program representative and monitor all collaborative relationships between departments and outside entities. * Hire, train and supervise research program staff. * Edit grant proposals and write or provide writing support, provide comprehensive editorial review, advise investigators on proposal content and organization and assist with updates and maintenance of institutional resource template materials. * Make operational and programmatic decisions that have a significant impact on the successful achievement of program strategies and objectives. * Develop short and long term goals and objectives for the program in line with University goals. * Perform professional work in support of scientific research using technical knowledge of software development, networking, and/or hardware in complex computing environment. Subject matter expert in multiple areas of computing technology, and specific knowledge of molecular biology and genetics. * Oversee the development and maintenance of complex databases to support new and ongoing research projects.
