Job Description

Your mission as a Project Manager at Socrata:

Socrata Project Managers serve as the expert in Digital Government best practices, developing roadmaps and mentoring clients in effectively executing their initiatives to becoming a smart government. They lead the Socrata Implementation Methodology, from kick-off to launch ensuring clients achieve success. They manage client implementations, developing plans with concise definitions of outcomes with a set timeline and resource plan to ensure the final solution is highly consumed by client team. Additionally, Project Managers coordinate technical deliverables defined in the SOW for each client engagement.

We would prefer this position to be located in our excellent offices in Washington DC.

How we envision the ideal candidate:

● Provide leadership and best practices to our clients for use of the Socrata Data Platform in the public sector.

● Develop thought leadership on the most productive roadmaps that enable our clients to evolve with Socrata into a smart government along a Digital Government maturity model.

● Document and deliver with quality and excellence all required documentation/deliverables according to the Socrata Implementation Methodology for all client engagements, including Status Reports, Program Design, Test Plan, and Digital Center of Excellence.

● Ensure client success by managing client expectations with regard to schedule, scope, quality, risks, budget and outcomes that ensure high client engagement.

● Provide day-to-day management, regular status reports, and manage all communications between program team and client.

● Develop, track, and update project schedules and budgets for clients.

● Maintain program scope via clear internal and external communications and use of a change management process for all activities defined outside of contract scope.

● Monitor project status and manage tasks, project milestones, deliverables and communicate progress to clients/

● Facilitate communication within the development team about risks, issues, and approaches.

● Lead UX tasks such as user research, information architecture, wireframes, content strategy, etc.

● Understand client priorities and maintain focus on delivering to identified client outcomes, while keeping track of important details.

● Manage risk appropriately and be solution-oriented.

● Build proactive, positive relationships with the sales team.

● Be held accountable to deliver services that meet metric targets for client satisfaction and billable utilization.

● Must be willing and able to travel up to 40%

Qualifications:

● Must have experience in and a passion for helping organizations use data to drive decisions and optimize their organization's productivity within the public sector including concepts in data-driven decision making, data visualization or related topics.

● Must possess at least 5 years of professional consulting experience in the software industry and/or technical program management experience.

● Experience in public sector.

● Must have experience with managing clients.

● Must be detail-oriented.

● Must have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Economics, Computer Science or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree.

● Experience leading projects focused on improving a government's ability to utilize data is a plus.

● Requires an understanding of project management techniques and tools.

● Requires proven ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.

● Requires strong communication (verbal and written) skills.

● Highly collaborative with clients and all Socrata team members.

● Requires solid organization skills and discipline to keep estimates, documentation, and timekeeping up to date.

● Experience with agile project methodologies is a plus.

● PMP or Agile certification is a plus.
