Project Lead/Business Systems Analyst

Location: San Francisco, CA

Duration: Contract to hire or Fulltime

Description:

* Client has an opening in our San Francisco, CA Office location for a Project Lead/Business Systems Analyst. The Project Lead / Analyst will oversee small to medium sized projects, as well as providing technical support as a business systems analyst. The successful Project Lead / Analyst will work cross-functionally with IT groups, business partners, suppliers/vendors and other teams to ensure successful completion of projects. Additional responsibilities will include gathering and documenting business specifications for systems development and enhancements, investigating and resolving issues with data and applications, and providing ad-hoc reporting.
* The Project Lead / Analyst is required to influence others in various roles, tracking activities/tasks and effecting accountability to ensure established milestones are achieved. Relies on instructions, pre- established guidelines, experience and judgment to perform the functions of the job and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks autonomously and with proficiency. Works under general supervision. Some degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Responsibilities:

* Develops and deploys project charters, objectives, plans, work breakdown structures, and schedules that support business needs; provides sound technical advice; manages a variety of projects simultaneously and coordinates project activities
* Works closely with stakeholders, functional managers, and subject matter experts to identify and document project milestones; performs and communicates high level business process analysis and project status reports accurately and timely
* Manages risks and issues affecting projects; collaboratively works with key constituents to recommend resolution, avoidance, or mitigation strategies; researches and diagnoses reported issues with data and applications, using query and reporting tools as needed
* Develops and/or reviews test plans and implementation plans
* Manages assigned vendor resources to meet project commitments and timelines; supports development of RFP and vendor selection process
* Gathers and documents business requirements for systems solutions by interviewing internal clients in business departments, reviewing business documents, contracts, regulations, and reports and surveying problem reports and enhancement requests
* Hands-on analysis of existing systems functions and data
* Analyzes, synthesizes, and documents business requirements as specifications for software engineers and DBAs
* Researches and diagnoses reported issues with data and applications, using query and reporting tools as needed
* Works with clients and IT QA staff to develop and execute user acceptance test plans; works with software engineers and DBAs to diagnose, correct, and retest problems
* Defines and develops ad hoc reports using system data sources and query/reporting tools such as MS-SQL, both for delivery to clients and for use in analysis and testing
* Supports project budget development including business process, data and cost/benefit analyses
* Develop and demonstrate knowledge in one or more designated domains/modules; effectively shares information with others

Qualifications:

* Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university; preference for degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business.
* Experience: 5+ years experience including direct experience overseeing short to long term IT projects, business systems analyst experience as a senior level analyst, prior experience overseeing/facilitating vendor support, familiarity with Project Management methods, processes, tools, and deliverables, familiarity with custom, package, and software-as-a-service project implementations, experience tracking and reporting project metrics.
* Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to develop executive briefings and effectively communicate IT concepts to senior executives. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
* Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
* Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
* Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft word processing software; Microsoft spreadsheet software; Microsoft presentation software and be proficient on applicable databases, systems and vendor software programs. e Work style: Strong organizational skills, detail oriented; ability to multi-task. Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with change, delays or unexpected events. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully. Considers the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers; can effectively translate business needs to technology requirements.
* Certificates and Licenses: Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred

Desired Skills:

* 6+ years prior experience as an IT Business Systems Analyst, or in a Data/Process role in non-IT department (e.g., underwriting, claims, finance, etc.) for an insurance company
* Experience with configuring FRD's, BRD's and UAT testing
* Analyzes, synthesizes, and documents business requirements as specifications for software engineers and DBAs
* Advanced skills in SQL including knowledge in database testing in Microsoft SQL Server environments including designing and manipulating test data, validating stored processes, jobs, triggers and replication
* Hands-on analysis of existing systems functions and data
