Join the AMA Insurance Agency team as the Programmer Analyst II-Synon in Insurance Agency-Technology. As part of the team, you will prepare system design and documentation based on approved functional specifications. You will perform complete system development activities including, but not limited to, analysis, coding, unit testing, and database design. You will interact with users as well as other members of Information Services team.

Other Responsibilities will include:

* Gathers data to analyze proposed or approved applications; examines or prepares requirements documents or other business specifications, files, and reports related to system flow or workflow.


* Prepares and documents detailed program specifications using current installation tools and methodologies. Periodically prepares specifications for other team members and consultants.


* Produces program logic, performs coding, prepares test data, and conducts unit testing. Reviews and corrects programs in accordance with user requirements and conformity to standards.


* Creates schedules for completion of development effort and tracks progress. Provides progress reports to inform team leader of status and issues that may affect project completion schedules.


* Provides operating information in cooperation with IT Operations Department and may assist in the initial instruction of users and IT Operations personnel.


* Maintains an awareness of advances in technology and techniques and recommends application when appropriate. Maintains a familiarity with systems software and design, data base design, operational procedures, and current installation features.



REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelor's degree in computer science or business administration, or a minimum of five years of computer related work experience.


* 5 - 7 years experience in programming and analysis in an IBM System i environment


* Thorough knowledge of structured programming and design techniques; thorough program debugging capabilities; thorough knowledge of operational control language.


* Strong hands-on development experience using CA 2E (SYNON/2E) required.


* Strong hands-on development experience using RPG and or RPG IV required.


* Strong hands-on development experience using VB.NET preferred.


* SQL knowledge a plus.


* Familiar with relational database design.


* Previous work in an insurance environment, preferred.


* Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment.


* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.


* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills


* Desire to work and succeed in a team-oriented environment.
