Under the supervision of the Chief Privacy Officer, and his/her designee this position is primarily responsible for performing audits and privacy incident investigations for the Office of Compliance Services-Privacy. Using existing written protocols and directions, to support the privacy program and management across UCLA Health and its Affiliates in furtherance of our mission and to support an effective compliance program. A Privacy Analyst, under the direction of management, performs assigned audits, investigations and projects related to Privacy. This position works with highly sensitive information. This position may include some overnight travel, inter-facility commuting and weekends. Responsibilities include:

Under the supervision of the Chief Privacy Officer, and his/her designee this position is primarily responsible for performing audits and privacy incident investigations for the Office of Compliance Services-Privacy. Using existing written protocols and directions, to support the privacy program and management across UCLA Health and its Affiliates in furtherance of our mission and to support an effective compliance program. A Privacy Analyst, under the direction of management, performs assigned audits, investigations and projects related to Privacy. This position works with highly sensitive information. This position may include some overnight travel, inter-facility commuting and weekends. Responsibilities include:

* Performing assigned investigations and privacy projects, under the direction of a senior, manager or director, following UCLA Health practice standards while keeping management well apprised of results and completion status.
* Conducting research to gain an understanding of regulatory and privacy requirements and risks.
* Participate, under the direction of management, on large, complex, system-wide projects or investigation, including work being performed under the direction of legal counsel
* Monitoring and resolving assigned privacy cases in the compliance database working closely with client management to assure action plans are completed and risk is mitigated in a timely manner.
* Performing special projects and other duties as assigned
* Assisting with investigations of inadvertent HIPAA disclosures. As necessary, may assist Chief Privacy Officer or Privacy Manager with investigatory interviews of UCLA workforce members or investigation targets.
* Assisting the Office of Compliance Services- Information Security with reviews and investigations they conduct as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution or equivalent credentials.

Certification as CHC, CHPC, CIPP preferred

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations affecting the management of confidential protected health information (PHI).

Two years of experience with emphasis on using electronic health records and auditing related activities - including but not limited to appropriateness of user access.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of federal and state statutes, laws, rules and regulations affecting privacy practices

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the essential elements of an effective compliance program.

Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required

Ability to maintain professionalism in the office and come to work with a positive attitude

Develop the ability and confidence to work with and provide excellent service to colleagues, customers across the organization and at all levels, from staff to executives, while maintaining objectivity and independence.

Ability to plan and execute assigned projects and/or investigations while meeting deadlines and investigative standards.

Professional conduct including maintaining confidential information.

Ability to research state and federal regulations including HIPAA, HITECH, CMIA, etc.

Develop an understanding and ability to apply OCS standards and use OCS tools such as C360 and Protenus

Oral and written communication skills including active listening skills

Organizational and analytical skills and attention to details.

Commitment to professional growth and understanding of the changing environment through current events reading, continuing education, self-study, cross-functional training, and work assignment variation.

Appropriately prioritize work responsibilities and effectively manage fluctuation workload demands.

Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite application.
