For our teams to be as effective and impactful as possible, we rely on the leadership and insight of the Visual Studio Engineering team. Embracing all the amazing work from the 1ES (One Engineering System at Microsoft), the Engineering System team in Visual Studio is adapting and contributing to these changes to deliver impactful improvements in developer productivity.

Basic Qualifications:

5+ years of experience developing production services

Preferred Qualifications:

Git, TFS, MSBuild, Azure and Web Service experience

BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent experience

Demonstrated solution delivery through a full product cycle in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

The Visual Studio family continues to evolve and expand, and its engineering needs are diverse. Needs such as working on Open Source systems, contributing to Windows/other partner teams, supporting cross-platform, delivering solutions as a service, etc. The team is looking for a Software Engineering Manager who can help provide engineering system solutions to all these diverse needs, foster meaningful teamwork, reduce duplicate efforts and improve developer productivity for hundreds of engineers.

Some examples of the impactful work of the Visual Studio Engineering team:

* Moving gigantic sources to Git to improve developer control and code flow.
* Smart componentization allowing teams to easily be independent yet connected to Visual Studio.
* Improving build time from a high of 18 hours to 2.5 hours which empowers the business to move more quickly.
* Completely rework the Visual Studio publishing pipeline to allow full publishing in hours instead of days all at higher success rates.
* Utilizing cloud scale to validate incoming components even more quickly and at higher quality.
* Early investments moving to an entirely Cloud based build lab which will yield a 30-minute build.
* Modernize our test system to better realize Cloud scale.

In this role, you will collaborate with engineering teams across the Visual Studio family of products and provide solutions to their evolving needs. You will lead and grow an energetic team to provide efficient solutions along with defining vision and strategy. You will mentor the next generation of engineering leaders. You will be able to make an impact on how engineers work daily by delivering solutions in an agile and iterative way. You will also work with the Microsoft 1ES team and other Engineering System teams across Microsoft to leverage solutions and contribute to them.
