POSITION SUMMARY:
Alkermes is seeking an experienced Principal Data Engineer, within R&D IT Applications. The preferred candidate is well-versed in current technologies, including cloud capabilities (services/microservices), data storage (Hadoop/Mongo db), and multifaceted data integration using modular, scalable approaches. The qualified individual would have extensive experience working in an agile environment. Crucial competencies include the ability to serve as the technical mentor for more junior members of the team.
The ideal candidate will work closely with the Discovery, Development, and Clinical organizations. They will facilitate new, innovative technologies to deliver value to the business. The preferred candidate will evaluate our current data flow and identify areas for improvement, including automation and data presentation. The ideal candidate can work autonomously to deliver key capabilities to our business partners.
All work of the Principal Data Engineer is conducted within regulatory guidelines and industry best practices.
The role will be based in Waltham MA.
ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Design and facilitate implementation of data management infrastructure to streamline data mining activities
Identify optimal data analytic platforms across R&D to provide fit-for-purpose solutions
Lead data migration and curation projects as needed throughout the R&D organization
Provide leadership within the Master Data Management company-wide initiative
Work closely with our internal teams to facilitate drug discovery/development for the organization through the creation and implementation of project driven data templates
Investigate new solutions to optimize data collection, aggregation, and analysis
Elicit data management/analytic requirements using interviews and workshops, document analysis and business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis
Ensure adequate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new capabilities and solutions
Independently prioritize projects and tasks to deliver value to the business
Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and Alkermes IT team
Ensure appropriate IT processes, procedures, and standards are in place
Build and foster effective relationships between the business and IT
Oversee vendor relationships for implemented technologies
Ensure adherence to FDA computer systems validation compliance
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Sciences, or a related field
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (U.S.) or 3rd level degree (EU) in Computer Science or equivalent
Experience (12+ years) in a similar role
Experience within pharmaceutical/biotech industry
Technical knowledge around R&D Systems and processes
Experience working with leading analytic tools (JMP, TIBCO, Tableau etc.)
Demonstrated ability to manage/prioritize projects and tasks for R&D IT initiatives
Experience working within a GxP environment is a plus
Technical Knowledge/Skills Needed:
Investigates new technologies (and/or changes to existing technologies)
SME for key R&D data aggregation/analysis needs
Recommend technical solutions and improvements to R&D data analytic systems
SQL and Python coding a must
Pipeline Pilot and KNIME a plus
AWS certification a plus
