Job Description
Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The Surreal Vision research group at FRL is seeking an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Scientist to help solve the next generation of challenges on the path to building future machine perception enabled technologies. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will have a proven track record in computer vision, including areas such as tracking, SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, structure from motion, localization and 3D reconstruction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop and research novel, accurate computer vision algorithms and advanced tightly integrated hardware and software technologies for real-time visual SLAM, sensor fusion, visual odometry, camera calibration, 3D reconstruction, and more
Conceive proof-of-concept prototypes that establish overall system performance
Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability and stability of various deployed systems
Collaborate with team members from prototyping through production to advance the entire project
Contribute research that can be applied to Facebook and Oculus product development
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree or completing a postdoctoral assignment in the field of computer science, computer vision, robotics or similar
Experience in geometric computer vision, state estimation, structure from motion and SLAM
Mathematical experience and knowledge in optimization, linear algebra, probabilistic estimation and 3D geometry
Experience with SLAM systems e.g. monocular, stereo, visual-inertial or RGBD
5+ years C++ experience with modern C++ features
Experience understanding, developing, and analyzing systems
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Must be available to start employment on or after May 1, 2019
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience working in a nix environment
Broad understanding of the full machine vision pipeline from sensors to high-level algorithms
Relevant publication history in top conferences and journals
Strong software engineering skills, ability to work within a complex codebase
Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CVPR, SIGGRAPH, ICCV, etc.
