Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The George Mason University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, is seeking two highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellows to conduct research in the areas of VLSI Design and Hardware Security, and Big Data Computing. Responsibilities:

VLSI Design and Hardware Security Area:

The successful candidate will perform research in the area of Hardware Security and VLSI Design and Fabrication. A primary area of work will be developing front-end and back-end design flow for fabricating advanced technology node for purpose of hardware security.

Computer Architecture and Embedded Systems area (Big Data Computing):

The successful candidate will perform research in the area of big data computing, heterogeneous and parallel computing, machine learning, data mining and computer architecture. The primary area of work will be developing machine-learning algorithms for big data computing and developing new system, algorithm and mapping and scheduling methods for energy-efficient processing of big data applications and deploying them in a complex big data processing environment. In addition the candidate will work with a group in the general area of heterogeneous computing and computer architecture. The candidate will also assist the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results and writing proposals. The incumbent will assist in maintaining the laboratory, and may exercise functional supervision over supporting graduate students. The appointment is for 12 months and can be extended for two years.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D., or have it completed by the start date of the position, in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science.

VLSI Design and Hardware Security Area:

* Knowledge and experience in synthesis, physical design, and timing sign off using standard industry used EDAs;
* Proficiency in, and past experience in, developing physical design automation flow and scripting;
* Knowledge and experience in implementing Design For Test (DFT) flows;
* Expertise in electrical and functional verification of test chips;
* Familiarity with issues raised for implementing chips in advanced technology

nodes (e.×. 14nm FinFet technology node); and
* Knowledge of hardware security issues, metrics, solutions, etc.



Preferred Qualifications:

Computer Architecture and Embedded Systems area (Big Data Computing):

Candidates with strong background in the following areas are preferred:

* Machine learning;
* Big data computing;
* Parallel computing;
* Image processing; and
* Computer architecture.
