Job Description

At Workday we sit on a treasure trove of data. The platform team believes that our greatest treasure is the systems data that describes how every component of our computing platform operates down to molecular levels of detail. With our rich data set and your penetrating analytical gaze you will illuminate every behavioral recess of our compute platform and bring to light insights that drive critical changes that make complete statistical sense.

Data Informatics Analyst: Generates ad hoc reports and regular datasets or report information for end-users using system tools and database or data warehouse queries and scripts. Integrates data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements. Programs and maintains report forms and formats, information dashboards, data generators, canned reports and other end-user information portals or resources. May create specifications for reports based on business requests. This is a technical role focused on building technical tools and structures based on established specifications. Incumbents whose primary function is analyzing data for trends and patterns should be matched to Business Intelligence Analyst. Individuals whose primary focus is maintaining internal database files and tables and developing custom reports to meet the requirements of Human Resource management.

Responsibilities

* Capacity planning: How much compute resource do we need to bring to bear on given workload sizes ?
* ROI calculation : How much cost savings can we expect from a given design or code change ?
* Failure Analysis : Under what conditions will a component fail given fixed memory and cpu resources
* Trending : Based on data trends what action should we take to avoid potential issues or save costs?
* Dashboard Design and Implementation : What are the key metrics and tolerances required for a given component and how can we effectively monitor it ?
* Business Queries : how can we answer pressing business questions with the data at hand, what data are we missing that prevents us from answering these questions?
* Business Opportunity : What signals are we missing in the data ? How do we surface these signals ? How can we effectively use them once we find them ?

Your clear direction will help add significant control, performance, and cost value to our platform and product offerings and drive increased customer satisfaction.

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics (or related field) or equivalent experience required.
* 5+ years hands-on experience with analytics preferably in a systems domain.
* Ability to collaborate closely with leadership team in formulating and answering their business questions.
* Exceptional ability to visually present and communicate data, analyses, and findings.
* Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality with sensitive information.
* Comfortable explaining complex ideas to any audience.
* Master of analytical tools
* Query languages : Hive SQL (preferred) or SQL or Spark SQL
* Statistical Programming : R (preferred) or Python or Matlab
* Experience building dashboards in Splunk (preferred) or Shiny/R
* Strong interest in analyzing large-scale complex data sets and building data pipelines with distributed computing frameworks
