Responsibilities

The Mission C2 directorate addresses Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) and Space Situational Awareness (SSA) supporting the Air Force's Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Space Superiority Directorate. Aerospace is one of the FFRDC leads for IT Platform Architecture, Acquisition, Mission capabilities studies, systems engineering and innovation with emergent technologies. The delivered capabilities will be essential early enablers to conducting timely, integrated, Air Force operations in the contested space environment. The MC2 Platform Architecture Engineer will be Aerospace's focal point for leading the MC2 Architecture design and development, leading ETG studies and analysis, to ensure the SMC government team meets architecture objectives and that the MC2 Architecture is well coordinated across key mission partners, including SMC, AFSPC, SSDP, AFRCO, and AFRL.

Key Functions

* Directly support the AF team as a member of the AF/FFRDC/SETA team
* Actively support the development of architectures, acquisition plans, requirements, test strategies, and transition to operations for MC2
* Identify contributions that Aerospace can make to the MC2 effort, coordinate the integration of those efforts into the program plan, and execute delivery through individual and team contributions
* Coordinate and lead Aerospace matrix support for the execution of tasks
* Ensure close coordination across multiple Aerospace and Air Force organizations responsible for the MC2 enterprise
* Moderate Travel required

This position is available as an Aerospace Project Engineer or Aerospace Senior Project Engineer

Qualifications

Required for Project Engineer

* BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in space, ground, or software system acquisition or systems engineering
* Experience in distributed cloud information systems
* Experience with Cloud based hosting platforms including AWS
* Understanding of developing DevOps CI/CD pipelines
* Understanding of Container Management Systems such as Kubernetes
* Understanding of Microservice Architectures and Service APIs
* Demonstrated ability to interact and build effective relationships and teams with government customers, other FFRDCs, UARCs, SETA contractors, and Aerospace personnel
* Agile Software development/management
* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret SCI clearance. US citizenship is required

Preferred

* Software Development experience
* Database Design
* Network Design
* Big Data Processing systems such as Spark and Hadoop
* Experience in government acquisition of software-intensive systems in the space or operational domains
* Knowledge of all phases of developing large scale systems architectures, using metrics and from a diverse data set.
* Demonstrated success in working with multiple stake holders
* Cybersecurity/IA experience in architecture work

Required for Sr. Project Engineer

* BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
* Minimum of 12 years of experience in space, ground, or software system acquisition or systems engineering
* Experience leading and building teams
* Experience with space situational awareness or space command & control
* Experience in distributed cloud information systems
* Experience with Cloud based hosting platforms including AWS
* Understanding of developing DevOps CI/CD pipelines
* Understanding of Container Management Systems such as Kubernetes
* Understanding of Microservice Architectures and Service APIs
* Demonstrated ability to interact and build effective relationships and teams with government customers, other FFRDCs, UARCs, SETA contractors, and Aerospace personnel
* Agile Software development/management

* Knowledge of process for operational and tactical military operations in the land, air, or sea domains that can be applied to the space domain
* Experience in government acquisition of software-intensive systems in the space or operational domains
* Knowledge of all phases of developing large scale systems architectures, using metrics and from a diverse data set.
* Demonstrated success in working with multiple stake holders
* Experience working with SMC, AFRL, AFRCO, AFSPC
* SMC program office experience
* Cybersecurity/IA experience in architecture work
