The Advanced Engineering department resides in the Charter Technical Engineering Center (CTEC) facilities in Englewood, CO and oversees the design and architecture of Charter's multi-billion dollar network infrastructure. We investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical, Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.

Job Summary

This position is part of the Advanced Video Engineering Team that assists in the design, development and implementation of Video systems and applications. This is a mulit-tier design/development & support role that interacts with Supply Chain, Video Product & Video Operations Teams to provide video solutions and tier 4 support for escalated issues. This role will be interfacing with CPE manufacturers, Legacy Guide Providers as well as 3rd Party Application Develpoment Teams to determine design and development requirements while prioritizing system development activities. This individual will also assist in resolving escalated system and customer issues. Duties will include point of escalation of technical issues and providing configuration guidance on video system maintenance best practices.

Major Duties and Responsibilites

Knowledge of cable video systems and architectures

Proven ability to analyze system issues, identify appropriate fixes and leverage external teams to improve/fix the system.

Ability to understand current and future product needs and customer expectations, translate to system requirements and develop work plans with cross-domain teams to ensure solutions are implemented, tested and deployed.

Understanding of system and software architecture concepts in order to integrate products into new and existing field systems.

Ability to work with and lead cross functional teams including SE, Product, Operations, IT, Care, etc.

Working knowledge of documentation tools like JIRA, Confluence, SWORD, etc. to track issues and defects efficiently.

Strong ability to communicate engineering details effectively with non-technical audiences through both oral and written presentations.

Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Evaluates new products, performs system and application problem resolution.

Assists in the development and documentation of technical standards.

Liaison with Lab to ensure Test Plans are complete and are executed properly. Reviews Test output reports and ensures all testing activities are complete and ready for deployment.

Develops and approves methods of procedure.

Knowledge of common cable CPE, including Charter's Worldbox.

Knolwedge of sytem monitoring and logging tools.

Knowledge of Cisco and Arris Headend Environments and Conditional Acess Systems.

Works on projects/ systems/issues of medium to high complexity surrounding video systems planning, configuration and optimization.

Provides escalated tier support across organizations and to third party vendors.

Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead.

Coaches less experienced staff.

Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.

Know, understand and follow company policy.

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

5-10 years experience in Video CPE design, deployment and support.

Extensive background in MPEG2 and MPEG4.

Extensive background in Cable Television Standards and Protocols, SCTE-65, SCTE-18, EAS.

Extensive knowledge of STB software architecture.

Extensive knowledge of Broadcom Nexus architecture.

Extensive knowledge of AVN cloud architecture.

Must be able to architect, design, and implement software defined control plane solutions to meet the functional, performance, scaling, and reliability requirements of production scale video systems.

Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner

Ability to use personal computer and software applications

Knowledge of company products and services

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience

Professional level certification or equivalent work experience

Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E)

Related Work Experience (Number of Years)

5+ years of Engineering or Operations Video Engineering experience
