POSITION SUMMARY:

The Network and Systems Engineer is responsible for researching, evaluating, implementing, and supporting new technologies as part of a strong IT operations team. Candidate should understand and internalize knowledge of complex network and security systems and the infrastructure that comprises them, and then apply that knowledge to projects and support of the environment. Candidate will do advanced analysis studies and optimization. Upon completing analysis, provide a written periodic report with recommendations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Setup and configuration of new servers and hardware (HP, VMware)
* Installation of Operating Systems, 3rd party application Software, network equipment, routers, switches and load balancers.
* Maintains and install new versions of firewall (Sophos)
* Performs regular periodic health checks, user administration, application of patches and upgrades, data management services, server tuning, and directory services maintenance
* Design and implementation of WAN and LANs architecture.
* Increase reliability, enhance performance, and reduce administrative efforts by implementing tools, scripts, 3rd party software in the most cost-effective manner.
* Ensures security standards, policies, and guidelines across corporate systems and mission critical LAN/WAN environments
* Performs system administration and ongoing maintenance functions on Windows and VMWare environment
* Successfully manages multiple projects and tasks at one time.
* Troubleshoot problems and resolves them quickly meeting the user's needs.
* Communicates complex technology and general information to everyone involved on a project in a clear and concise manner based on the audience level.
* Follows through on commitments, communicating status to Manager / Director / User, assessing User's satisfaction, and achieving results.
* Takes an active role in continuing to educate self on new technologies and skill sets.
* Responsible to act as Project Lead on assigned projects. May take on a leadership role with the introduction of large enterprise-based applications, satellite introductions, and major upgrades. This position may be responsible for physical assets, Intellectual assets, and personnel
* Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Any combination of experience and the following certifications a plus (e.g. MCSE, CCNA, CCNP,CCIE - Juniper certifications preferred or extensive Juniper experience with Cisco Certs)
* Defense-in-depth security, foundation in security skills/tools preferred
* Demonstrated experience with equipment replacement at an enterprise level. One or more iterations preferred.
* Excellent analysis, risk vs. reward analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
* Exceptionally strong experience with Windows (All versions), Active directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.
* Electronic collaboration tools, namely DNS, SMTP, HTTP(S), and LDAP.
* IP networking and routing, and some programming skills
* ITIL certification is a plus, but demonstrated experience and ability to articulate process gone through to implement similar controls in a medium to large operation is also considered.
* Network and server load balancing technology; and line provisioning
* Office 365 experience a plus
* Prior experience with new technology assimilation
* Project Management (Certification through an accredited university, CPM in conjunction with demonstrated application, PMP.)
* Stateful Inspection and Proxy Firewalls
* The ideal profile of a candidate would include progressive evolution through small, medium organization activity progressing to large enterprise.
* Understanding of the 7-layer OSI protocol model
* Working knowledge of multi-homed ISP load balancing (Sophos).

Required Experience

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* BA, BS, MS or a combination of degree, certifications and 8+ years of demonstrable experience with various sized projects and methodologies.
* 10 years plus experience working within an IT Infrastructure as a Network and Systems Administrator
* 2-3 years plus experience with designing / recommending IT Infrastructure solutions
* 6 years plus experience with WinTel technology servers, desktops and laptops, including virtual environments
* Experience with hosted /cloud solution; managing multiple firewalls; routers, switches and VPN (Juniper); various back-up technologies (Veeam)
* Experience with IT process controls, standardization that would be achieved an ITIL introduction
* Experience with performing an analysis of information system activity and security problems to discover and prevent systematic errors; recommends security system design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance
* Experience with TCP/IP based technologies and protocols related to e-mail and other
* Experience with windows terminal server environment in a large enterprise setting (farm monitoring, client issue resolution, etc.)
* Working experience with content management systems and web filtering systems
