Job Description

Network Engineer on the Network Operations Team for the IRES program supporting the Missile Defense Agency at National Capitol Region, Fort Belvoir, VA. Primary duties include operations and maintenance of the MDA general service network infrastructure, primarily troubleshooting and managing configurations on network routers, switches, military and network encryption technologies, and firewalls. Will perform network and firewall engineering, monitoring and administration functions as required, provide initial analysis and troubleshooting on issues identified with network monitoring tools and provide troubleshooting support to end users on the network as well as other general networking tasks. Additional responsibilities include generate/provide status reports, provide network anomaly detection, analysis, troubleshooting, and repair. Additionally develop engineering documentation and redlines as needed to support network maintenance actions, engineering changes/upgrades, and security vulnerability mitigation. No relocation assistance available. May work off hours or on call as required.

Requirements: High School Diploma plus 12 years of general experience or an Associate's degree and 10 years of general experience or a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of general experience. Requires 6 years of relevant experience in related field. Candidates must have completed Security certification and be enrolled in Continuing Education (CE) or other equivalent to meet DoD 8570.1-M requirements. Must have at least 6 years of applicable experience with Cisco routers, switches, and networking (LAN/WAN) technologies. Must have experience following documented engineering processes and procedures. Must have a DoD Secret clearance with the ability to be granted a DoD Top Secret clearance.

Desired: Cisco CCNA Certification. Able to multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Able to work well in a team environment, have good interpersonal skills, be a quick learner and have a positive, can-do attitude. Experience supporting VIP or Senior management and demonstrate excellent customer service skills is highly preferred. Experience with Network firewalls and KVM switches. Experience with TCP/IP, UDP Multicast, OSPF, and various WAN network mediums, legacy network systems such as SONET, LightWave ATM, and TDM multiplexer network timing systems. Experience in supporting environments for an "operational network", to include tech-control environments, crypto maintenance, COMSEC, or systems administration. Proficient working with DISA, local and long-haul circuit vendors. Strong technical and hands-on experience in all of the following: various protocols for data transmission (RS-232, RS-530, T1, T3, ESF, D4, B8ZS, OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, OC-192), OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) 7-layer model and the various facets of data transmission between any two points in a network. DSX equipment panels and associated wiring Fiber optics cabling, connectors and termination techniques, metallic cabling, connectors and termination techniques.
