Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for the daily management of the Electric Department's network infrastructure. Also responsible for providing technical assistance to department staff and outside vendors to plan and install network equipment, software, and cabling systems to satisfy bandwidth needs.

Essential Job Functions Install and administer network infrastructure in coordination with City Communication personnel or outside vendors. Monitor and maintain network performance and capacity after modifications and updates. Investigate and resolve problems with performance and response time for server and network infrastructure. Participate in needs-analysis and requirements definitions with other City personnel to determine project scope. Projects may include facility re-cabling, network architecture changes, and firewall implementations. Maintain network security through securing the network infrastructure from physical and electronic threats. Accomplished via zero trust architecture, physical access controls, implementing monitoring tools, and staying up to date with industry security trends. Manage and apply hardening standards to ensure maximum security for all environments. Examples may include disabling unused features and services, setting password complexity, using two-factor authentication, and monitoring system baselines. Familiar with NERC CIP compliance standards. Minimum Education & Work Experience Four-year college degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or business related discipline 3 years related experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:

* Four-year college degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study
* 3-5 years experience installing and managing network infrastructure and security systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Comprehensive knowledge of the major components in network and server infrastructure-hardware, software, cabling systems
* Ability to set up and manage layer 2/3 network devices and zone based firewalls
* Experience using WireShark or other network sniffing tools
* Experience creating and maintaining site-to-site and SSL-VPN's
* Interpersonal skills to work with users to define system requirements and resolve problems
* Network design and architecture experience a plus

Licenses & CertificationsCisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred An industry recognized security certification is a plus (CISSP, CEH) Valid Class C Texas Driver's license Physical Tasks & Working ConditionsThe incumbent works in a typical office environment; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
