Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Linux system administrator to join our team of systems administrators responsible for the 24x7 support of mission-critical services supporting our Global Constellation handling, on average, over 152 Billion transactions a day. We prize engineering professionals who are equipped with great technical skills and attitudes that motivate those around them. Our data centers are located around the world, so travel may be required as part of this position. Team members are sometimes called upon to work at locations both within and outside the United States and should be able to travel freely.

The Position:

Responsibilities of the candidate filling this position include:

* Acquisition of an understanding of Verisign's DNS resolution services, applications, and operational environments
* Installation, configuration and maintenance of production, staging, quality assurance, and development environments to support Verisign's name resolution services; environments include servers, operating systems, applications software, and automation tools
* Coordination with other technical staff to implement systems and software
* Performance of daily operations support functions, including problem isolation and resolution
* Documentation of processes, procedures, configurations, and deployment plans
* Interfacing with engineering and customer service organizations
* Regularly reporting progress to management
* Participation, as needed, in off-hours support
* Eligibility and ability to travel occasionally

The Candidate:

Our ideal candidate will have a unique blend of technical skills and the desire to grow both technically and professionally. The candidate must have experience with:

* Linux system administration in a mission-critical production environment
* UNIX utilities and scripting languages, such such as python and Bash
* Configuration management tools, such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible or SALT
* A version control system, preferably git
* Excellent understanding of network protocols, including IP, TCP and UDP
* Ability to troubleshoot advanced problems with TCP/IP and UDP/IP

In addition, the candidate should have:

* Knowledge of countermeasures against denial of service attacks
* Deep understanding of DNS (exposure to BIND is desired)
* 8 years related experience, BA/BS degree in an applicable discipline, or equivalent work experience
