Job Description

Aquila is seeking a System Administrator to contribute to one of this country's premier defense research organizations. The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne Lasercom terminals. As a Linux/Desktop System Administrator you will support unclassified development and end user workstations.

Responsibilities:

Perform various system administration duties in a large, physical and virtual Linux environment. Assist in implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting Linux issues relating to performance, compliance and security hardening. The ideal candidate will have a fundamental understating of Linux concepts, including file/directory permissions, users and groups, service management, and interfacing with hardware. This candidate must be eager to learn and grow in other areas such as storage administration, VMWare and networking. This position will provide server and desktop level support to the group as well as various programs/projects.

Required Skills:

* Experience (1-3 years of experience) implementing and supporting Linux systems (RHEL/CentOS/Fedora preferred)
* Experience implementing and supporting Linux in R&D Lab environment
* Experience utilizing basic package and repository maintenance
* Experience troubleshooting third party Linux drivers
* Knowledge of account management using OpenLDAP,SSSD,etc.
* Demonstrated troubleshooting of complex/distributed networks and systems (logs, dmesg etc)
* Detailed knowledge of Linux security hardening principles and best practices
* Experience providing system and hardware level support on Dell Server/Desktop technology as well as end user support
* Proven ability to learn and implement unfamiliar technologies
* Research into new technologies that can enhance productivity for us or our customers
* Document IT procedures
* Position requires U.S. Citizenship
* Position requires a Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance with the US government

Preferred Skills:

* Experience troubleshooting/working with networking protocols
* Experience implementing/managing enterprise storage
* Experience supporting/implementing virtualization technologies
* Experience maintaining enterprise backup solutions
* Experience utilizing/implementing Dev Ops tool sets
* Scripting experience (language agnostic)
* A current Linux certification: RHEL or LPIC
* A current CompTIA Security+ with CE

Qualifications and Background:

* Associates degree OR Technical School Certificate OR 1 or more Certifications.
* At least 3 years of applicable experience.
