Responsibilities/Qualification
Alion is actively seeking a Lead level engineer with at least 8 years of experience in support on an active contract with the U.S. Navy. This position with support the Program Executive Office Submarines program office, PMS450, the Virginia Class Acquisition Program Office, responsible for the acquisition of In-Service Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarines. The program is a major defense acquisition program, one of the top five DoD Acquisition Programs
This position is in Washington, DC by the Navy Yard.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Review and edit VIRGINIA Class Ship Certification Compendium and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Assist PMS450 with records management
Assist PMS450 with the annual PMS450 SUBSAFE, FBW SCS, and DSS SOC self-assessment
Provide assistance to the NAVSEA SUBSAFE, FBW SCS, and DSSSOC Internal Audit Team
Assist with hosting and coordinating VIRGINIA Class Working Group meetings
Daily interaction with programmatic, technical, and quality assurance representatives in the SUBSAFE and Fly-by-Wire communities.
Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within own organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. Receives general supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff.
Performs basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of higher-level engineers in the development of system and technical products. Typically employs pre-established guidelines and instructions, and limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives.
Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements and analyses. Exhibits the ability to independently perform basic data validation and troubleshooting.
Provides some technical guidance and oversight to entry level technical staff and may act as a technical lead for limited aspects of a project.
Has some independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under guidance of more senior technical personnel.
Provides input and support to intra-organizational proposal development efforts. May have some exposure to and provide some input to inter-organizational technical and business development activities.
Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.
Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.
Travelling is minimal; less than 20%
Education and Required Experience:
Master's degree in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in support on an active contract with the U.S. Navy.
An active DoD Secret clearance is required.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Windows software, including Word processing, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and database applications, essential .
