Job Description

The MITRE Corporation is looking for a Lead Systems Architect with clearly demonstrated prominence in both the delivery, integration, and application of current industry capabilities, as well as internal research and development supporting new professional disciplines. As a Lead Systems Architect, you will provide thought leadership and problem solving for government customers in collaboration with stakeholders from private, federal, state and local sectors. A primary responsibility will be to study and research the current state and history of the IRS technical systems architecture with the goal of becoming an IRS domain expert understanding:

* Design, function and goals of the current IT infrastructure including compute, storage, network and backup layers


* The legacy systems design, operational history and modernization efforts and what success and failures have occurred over time


* Current ongoing initiatives and how they integrate and support the overall IT strategic blueprint and roadmap



This position will work across several tasks to provide analysis and guidance on the IT strategic plan including insight into current market trends and best practices. This candidate will have hands-on experience with IT modernization and transformation.

Responsibilities may include the following activities:

* Develop domain expertise in current government systems design and architecture.


* Assist in analysis and improvement at multiple levels of enterprise architecture design and execution at the department and agency level, identifying their core competencies, defining measures, and identifying capabilities


* Provide support in planning, evaluating, and overseeing Custom Off-the-Shelf (COTS) solution implementations including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) activities and modules


* Provide support in designing or guiding the agency to design target architectures that streamline and modernize federal agencies or service organizations


* Assist others in the development of the necessary programs and projects for implementing change and executing agency transformation; Promote collaboration and integration with other capability areas across the technical centers and portfolios in MITRE


* Contribute to MITRE's reputation as a thought leader in the advancement of Enterprise Architecture within MITRE and across Academia, Gov/Industry Standards and Professional Societies


* Develop trusted strategic partnerships with key customers and stakeholders



Required Qualifications

Key skills, knowledge and experiences include:

* EA methodologies and frameworks,
* Architecture development and maintenance methodology
* EA assessments
* EA modeling methods and tools
* EA repositories
* Reference models
* Segment architecture development
* Transition architectures or plan development
* EA performance metrics definition
* Enterprise planning
* Requirements definition, analysis, conducting customer interviews and facilitation
* Experience in creating deliverables and executing on projects according to demanding time frame requirements
* Ability to establish productive relationships with sponsors, MITRE leadership, and department peers
* Ability to convey how individual activities fit into the strategic goals and objectives
* Experience working on transformational projects in complex environments.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills including presentation and facilitation
* Bachelor of Science in engineering, computer science, or mathematics.
