Lead QA Engineer

Job Summary

As a core team member, you will work as a key member of the engineering team, crafting and executing test plans that ensure our platforms exceed all quality and performance requirements while working collaboratively with Product Management to apply required methodologies and processes to make sure deliverables meet the company's highest standards.

This position will be located in: Arlington, VA (Clarendon metro)

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Testing

* Provide accountability on the technical strategy for testing and quality assurance on our applications
* Designs, develops, and executes manual and automated test cases using test plans and functional specifications.
* Prepares data sets by analyzing functional requirements; collects data for test cases.
* Participates in software requirement, specification and design reviews.
* Develop and maintain enterprise scalable test automation frameworks.
* Promote excellent development practices for coded test frameworks, to include participating in code reviews and source control management
* Design test automation for web services, APIs, and web-based platforms.
* Partner with scrum team members to provide technical guidance on creating agile test automation solutions, accelerating our SDLC processes and meeting critical business objectives
* Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing test results; making recommendations.
* Evaluate new technology or processes to support sustainable, continuous test automation.



Leadership

* Mentor peers and staff on quality engineering, network with other automation teams within Hobsons and derive automation best practices for continuous improvement.
* Oversees the coordination of testing effort with cross geographic location teams.
* Leads the QA effort in process planning and documentation.
* Participates in the hiring and training processes of new team members

Skills

* Understanding of QA practices (black box testing, risk based testing, system testing, regression testing, exploratory testing practices)
* Strong technical competency in Java/JavaScript or an expert in test automation tools preferably in a Java/Maven environment and the Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Zephyr, Confluence), Selenium or other industry leading tool sets
* Team player with excellent communication skills (oral and written) to partner technically with Application Architects, Development, QA/Testing organizations and Business teams
* Working knowledge of Agile, Iterative development process and methodologies is essential
* Strong problem-solving skills including ability to disseminate complex ideas in a simplified fashion
* Hands-on experience in building and executing web services/API tests.
* Behavior Driven Development (BDD) experience.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science in Computer Science preferred, or related field and/or experience.
* 7 year software testing experience in a professional software development environment
* 3 year experience in a web based testing environment.
* 3 year experience in creating automated test scripts and using automated testing tool/s
* Experience leading multiple, simultaneous quality assurance efforts, and a track record as a mentor while providing quality assurance leadership in a test lead capacity
* Previous experience in working at Higher Education market is a plus.
