High School/GED/Vocational White Plains Hospital Job Description Title: Senior Network Engineer Job Code: 700142 Department/Location: Telecommunications FLSA Status: Non Exempt Reports to: Director of Network Infrastructure and Operations Position Summary Takes lead on a majority of network and operation projects or goals that are needed to be completed by the department. Performs technical work developing, implementing, and supporting the hospital's network infrastructure and networking equipment. Involvement in the day-to-day operations of the network, including all premise wiring, cable management, Cisco and other networking devices, as well as the hospital's telecommunication initiatives. This position will primarily work with the physical aspect of the network and telecommunications infrastructure, including, but not limited to: all networked devices, paging systems, RONCO Nurse call systems, Nortel CS1000 PBX, Call Pilot voice mail, Ascom wireless phones, Cisco CUCM, fax machines, voice and data circuits, and maintaining appropriate documentation. This position will support the needs of the hospital community through troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and servicing the systems described above. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. 2. Performs work in the administration and maintenance of the hospital's network/telecommunication systems and infrastructure that support all current and evolving technologies in use. Work includes; maintenance of the cable management system, assisting with the installation of Cisco switches and other network devices, troubleshooting and resolving operational problems. This position requires understanding of networking principles, procedures, and has a strong knowledge of telecommunication fundamentals. 3. Assists in the administration of the communications network within the hospital. 4. Provides infrastructure support for common use technologies. 5. Assists with installing, terminating, and testing voice and data wiring. 6. Provides day-to-day support of the in-building premises wiring distribution system. 7. Organizes and manages rack space and cable management within the data center and data closets. 8. Provides network support, including basic troubleshooting of both wired and wireless systems. 9. Participates in research, evaluation, and integration of new network and telecommunication technologies, including mobile devices. 10. Assists with moves. , adds and changes related to the organizations network and telecommunication systems. 11. Assists in the annual testing of nurse call components as required by the hospital. 12. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements Minimum High School diploma. Associates or Bachelor's degree in electronics or computer science preferred. Minimum two years' experience working in a networking/telecommunications environment Must have a valid driver's license Knowledge of various data/voice media to include but not limited to; CAT5E, CAT6, multimode and single mode fiber optic cabling Knowledge of Cisco switching and routing fundamentals Basic knowledge of IP addressing Knowledge of Cisco Call Manager is highly preferred Knowledge of Nortel/Avaya PBX, and Call Pilot voicemail is desirable Knowledge of Rauland Borg nurse call systems is desirable Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft office suite of products, particularly; Excel, Word, and Outlook. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Must be able to move throughout the hospital as well as travel (drive) to hospital remote sites. Must frequently use a computer and other office and telecommunication equipment Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to install, repair, and inspect ceiling mounted equipment. Frequently positions self to work on data racks, network jacks, fax machines, and nurse call equipment. This person will frequently need to communicate and exchange information with colleagues during the course of routine days and specific networking projects. Must be able to identify and make determinations about specific network and telecommunications equipment. Must be able to move objects up to fifty pounds.
